After innumerable sorties, Haley Wilcox had gotten pretty good at the portion of her job involving fisticuffs. Hell, her latest adversary, for all its bluster and destructiveness, hadn't even managed to make her bleed.

In spite of all that prowess, her interactions with the people she protected had been decidedly mixed. Friendly or not, she was every bit the monster she had been sent here to slay. Impossibly large, nigh indestructible. And she had to be: a diamond to cut diamonds.

But the time for that hard edge was finished, at least for now. Haley breathed deeply and suppressed the last of her adrenaline, slowed her pounding heart. With the speed of an eroding mountain, she knelt and bent down, lower and still lower, until she was face to face with the diminutive survivor.

"Do you mind if I take you away from here?" she asked, barely above a whisper.
