Hey gang!

This is the first page of a 6 page comic I painted for my book, Vigilant Lioness Volume 1. I've always been interested in comics, but outside of an experiment or two, I've never managed to make one successfully. I had actually put together sketches and layouts for a Vigilant Lioness comic back in college, but I tried to oil paint it at a time when I had very little understanding of how to actually paint. I didn't get very far with it haha.

And that makes it all the sweeter to finally be achieving the dream now, five years later. This comic came about thanks to my new art book- it was originally 122 pages, but the printing company told me that books are actually printed in increments of 8 or 16 pages. So I was paying for a 128 page book, but only using 122 of the pages. I wasn't going to let those last 6 pages go to waste, so I started thinking about what I could do with them. I'd already been thinking about revisiting the idea of doing a comic of some kind, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Thus, Recover was born.

The full comic is only going to be available in my book Vigilant Lioness Volume 1, which is currently available on Kickstarter . The book collects everything I've done for Vigilant Lioness over the last 5 years- all the paintings, drawings, sketches, color studies, reference images, and more. I'm really proud of the way the book turned out, and I'm excited for you guys to be able to hold it in your hands. We're already 60% of the way to our goal, and with your help we'll make it to 100%!
