Yup, it’s Apeman and Monkeyboy again, this time striking leapy let’s-go-and-bash-up-the-bad-guys poses. Aside from the Photoshopped background, this is the first image of the simian duo that I’ve attempted to colour with my new Derwent pencils (the best I’ve found since my beloved Karismas disappeared), and I’m quite pleased with the results - the purple in particular seems zingier than previously, and the flesh tones are rather more vibrant as well. Hurrah! I think Derwent and I shall be friends.Related content

Hi, Matt! I'm going to be leaving this message on all of your "Apeman" pics, because I want you to know I LOVE THOSE CHARACTERS SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!! You don't know how difficult it is finding a fellow superhero gorilla in this crazy planet. Please tell me how I can obtain any comics of these guys.

Thanks muchly for the compliments! And yup, it's pencil - the secret is to be a really unbelievably finicky perfectionist and take about 10 million years to finish colouring one eyebrow.

The death of the Karisma brand of pencils was truly a sad thing, but the Derwents have proved to be an admirably groovy alternative. I'm glad you like my first go at using them to colour AM and MB!

That is some -nice- work with those pencils! The colors look so smooth, I'd swear you were lying and had use the computer to color this.

Nope! It's pencils all the way (except the background, obv), including the handy-dandy peachy swell white pencil, which is very much the key to smooth blending. Truly, it is a prince among colouring implements.
