I've let it slip once or twice that Zuko is one of my favorite animated characters of all time. [link]

It's funny... because when I started watching the show, Zuko was probably my least favorite character. I mean, judging by the first few episodes, he is nearly irredeemable.

But, while Aang was learning to be the Avatar, Katara a waterbender, and Sokka a strategical warrior... Zuko grew too. We watched him question his misguided ideals, as he realized a different and better morality. The definition of right and wrong, and the difference between them.

He stumbles a few times on this path. Like anything, anger and power are hard to quit cold turkey. But finally he emerged as the man he was always meant to be. He finds his own honor, and with it his place next to the Avatar on the side of good.

No longer consumed by what his father wants for him, no longer the angry hunter, the blue thief. Zuko becomes a teacher, a learner, a comrade and, most importantly, a friend. A friend who would sacrifice his life to protect those he cares about.

Isn't that just awesome?
