I absolutely adored this episode... for a lot of reasons. Like Katara showing her power as a waterbender, to Zuko's expression when she bloodbends.... but mostly for this one moment.

This was the last in a line of episodes where Zuko proved himself to the other members of the gaang, and it's probably the most important... at the very least because he needed the trust of the whole team to really be a part of it.

Zuko had the choice to change at the end of the second season, and everything around him was pushing him to do so. His uncle, his hatred towards his sister, he was sitting in a cave with one of the Avatar's closest friends... and she was being kind to him. But... he blew it. The chance to restore his honor and throne was too great an incentive to pass up.

Later, when he finally does decide to join the Avatar, with the weight of all of his mistakes hanging over him... this one, most of all, is the one that hinders his ability to change. When you wrong someone... no matter how sorry you are, no matter how much you repay the debt... without forgiveness you still suffer for your crime internally. You desire it's relieving power most of all. This is what Zuko is feeling, and until he rights that wrong... he will never personally feel a part of the group.

So when the moment of forgiveness finally occurs, having been stretched and strained by both sides over the course of the last few months, it's beautiful to see. On my list, it's only surpassed in importance to Zuko as a character by [link] this one. And only slightly above his joining in the first place.
