Because the comic universe has much less 80's cheese. The Marvel cinematic universe has stomped the desire for superheroes to take themselves seriously out of me, and, thanks to the continuing aftereffects of Iron Man 3, right now I'd like nothing more than three to four seasons of a guy with a mirror for a face and a voice like a chainsmoker with a lisp attempting to take over the world with cobra-shaped lasers and buggies, and getting constantly foiled by his own ineptitude and some really American buff guys plus a lady dressed in a yellow leotard.

He one upped himself in the comics. After years of humiliation, he was infiltrated by a Joe, who was going to bring him down from the inside. After an issue or so, he, in order, reveals that all his failures were a ruse so he could understand the Joe's Perfectly, reveals that he knows the location of the pit, shoots the traitor in the face, invades the pit, and costs the Joes five hundred men and four million dollars in resources.
It's definitely better when he's like this.

it's so true, i often wondered why Destro didn't just smack Cobra Commander upside the head, tie him up and lock him in a closet with Zartan for company and just do things his way, he is the one bilding the weapons. i'm sure the Baronness nags at him enough times to do so.

True story. I was in the Army and our company was Charlie Company. We used to be known as the Charlie Crusaders, but then we got a new commander, and the first thing he did was change our image from Crusader to Cobra. And then he wanted to be known as Cobra Commander.

what i like about old villians is they stick to their theme and you never had two villians with the same theme. shredder like sharp objects on his body. megatron likes yelling and underlings that want to over throw him. cobra has snakes the first snake theme. that's what made them pretty.
