The modern history nerd in me is reminded of Nazi Germany, where more than a few inventions that could have helped the war effort were made null by Hitler's rather out-of-touch orders for change (e.g. making a fighter plane a bomber even though they needed fighters more than bombers).
But yeah, a snake theme will only get you so far.

Actually, the mistake with the ME-262 has become more of a legend than actual truth (ME-262 was first created as an high speed interceptor/strike bomber. It just never would work out. Hitler compounded the problem, but not so. What really killed it was the Jumo 004 engines. Jet engines those days are tempermental freaks that can quit on you who knows god when! The typical operation life time of a jumo was only 30 hours sometimes! That's a total of a week or so! No wonder there were never enough ME-262!)
HOWEVER, Hitler did made A LOT of stupid mistakes that turn the tide against him. i.e. big useless projects like Maus and E-100 tanks (one weighted 188 tons. NO, that's NOT a typo! I said 188 tons, the other 100 tons), The Dora/Gustav railway guns and the King Tiger tanks. Complete non-sensical orders like ordering his troops to attack when the Americans broke out of the Normandy beach heads, turning the attack into something called the "Falaise Gap", the Battle of the Bulge, and initially, during the Ukranian Campaign, using "Scortch Earth" Pollicy that peed off all the Ukranians, who first actually viewed the Germans as liberators from STalin...So yeah, Hitler was an @$$ alright!

lol why am i suddenly flashing to a cross between office space and g.i. joe. -cobra comander walks in with a coffee cup in hand. he sips the coffee even though there is no visible way he could drink.- "yeah destro that's great..say we need you to come in and work on saturday...hmmm yeah and if you could just come in on sunday morining that would be great too yeah. oh and destro i don't know if you got the memo but we are putting on cover sheets on all the TPS reports from now on so if you could go ahead and do that right now that would be great yeah. love the new lazer btw but, small sudjestion could you make it look more like a snake..yeah we'd really like a snake laser to go with the whole cobra motif..that and those cover sheets on the tps reports. yeah that'd be great."
