How lovely!
How did you have all the beaded bits line up so nicely though? Is it multiple threaded?
Either way, I bet this is very striking in person!

Thank you! There is a type of floss or beading string that looks like a cross between dental floss and silk that I used. Then it was a matter of sewing it on the sides straight. Since I have never done any beading before (I use my beads for my sequins and beads projects only) I have never used any kind of layering so it took a bit to figure out how to make the "tassled" ends

Oh! Oh so that's how you did it! Nicely managed! I would never have thought to sew the pieces together. Wow

I didn't used to either but I just happened to sew a piece of satin ribbon onto the back of a bookmark and liked that it covered up the back and sort of protected the work.

Thank you! I'm thinking I will have to try that again. I was going to try it on the last bookmark I made but for some reason I couldn't remember how I did it the first time

Thank you! I really enjoyed making it and frankly the picture doesn't do it justice at all.......the shine of the beads and the design isn't as apparent..............but the picture itself is pretty awesome ahahahaha!

Beads? Oh wow I never realized that! Was sure it's some sort of stitching... but yeah, now it's even more impressive

Thank you! I just visited your gallery and I have to say that your art work is strong and brilliant. You have quite a definitive style

hahaha, well I really like it too, but I'm thinking it's the background showing off the bookmark that is making it out to be prettier than it could really be. I went for those primary colors on purpose and it really shows in the picture

Yes! I tried taking several pictures to show off the beadwork, but I think the downfall here was the use of the black thread which took a little of the sparkle out of the beadwork Next bookmark will be done differently but I still like the way this one came out

I've seem some of it, but not much. When I'm looking at someone's gallery I've been known to add them to my devwatch and watch for a full year before coming to any conclusions in relation to their work. Albeit, this was for a very subtle artist who is unfortunately no longer on Deviantart, but the explanation is still valid. I don't look at someone's gallery merely in the sense of what they have posted so far - I take into account if and how they have changed over their duration of activity on Deviantart, for one thing, their frequency of posting, their comments. I'm not just here to look at pretty things, after all, but to learn from others.

How cool! That's exactly what I do. I occasionally look through the galleries to see the evolution of a craft and can see what changes have been made for improvement and if I can't figure it out I'll ask. RobertSloan has taught me MORE about drawing than any artist on here so far, and I've come up with some really great new ways of making my lovely cross stitch better than ever. I have yet to figure out how some deviants can make those great animals by crochet...........going to have to ask pretty soon haha. My favorite tutorials were from photographers who helped me figure out how to take pictures of my little things so everyone can see what I see. Learning CSS and Photoshop are still troublesome, but Lilyas has helped with the CSS and I have yet to find a teacher for the photoshop..............I live too far away from my son now for him to yell at me about it

Oh yes, Crochet animals are so much fun. I've been crocheting three-dimensional forms in the last few weeks, it's really not very difficult. More technique than skill. Once you master the basics of single-stitching the the round and expanding and contracting, you can make whatever shapes you want to.

I found a really WONDERFUL book on amazon.com (before I knew about half.com) called THE BOOK OF KELLS, An Illustrated Introduction to the Manuscript in Trinity College Dublin by Bernard Meehan. I'm including two places to find them for you
half.com is less expensive for both books and shipping and I've had far less wait time and better results from the sellers on half.com as well
