So I miiiight have snuck in a liiiiiiittle work yesterday. I still got to spend most of the day for me! But I knew it would bother me more to have this one so close to finished but not done than it would to work on Halloween. It took about two hours, including me painstakingly doing the scan edits with a mouse because I thought my tablet was on the fritz only to realize I'd plugged in the USB for my scanner instead of my tablet. I am not a clever man.
So! Another one done! 8 down, 20 to go!
Y'all, her face is SO TINY. All of the details are! In order to fit her wings onto the paper size I've been using I had to print her much smaller than all the other folks so far, and her face is MINISCULE. Her full face MIGHT be the size of my fingernail, and keeping all of the details in there accurate when my tiniest fineliner is thrice the size of the line art printed was a CHALLENGE.
When I heard "wings made of fire" I knew I didn't want them to be just one big wing-shaped blob so instead I tortured myself and made them tufts of flame for feathers. I do wish I could have gotten them blended out a little more, but the paper wasn't having it. I'm content with the way they are.
I hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween and is looking forward to the many more illustrations to come!
