Time to prepare for this tutorial: 1 year
Time to make the tutorial: 6 hours
Purpose of the tutorial: To help beginners, or people who struggle with drawing perspectives to get a start in apply it.

I feel quite accomplished being able to finish this tutorial now. I promised this since last year, it was a challenge to even start to make it.
Honestly, I don't feel I am good at perspective, but it seems like I am good enough to teach some basics.

There are plenty of tutorials on perspectives out there, but not everyone can apply the technquies after they learn them.
I hope this tutorial will help out the majority of the artists who started drawing with characters first like I am.

Other recommanded tutorials: From easy to hard

There is something that I dont understand. The three guys along the horizon line; should not the horizon line run across their eyes instead of different parts of the bodies? If not, why is it so? I kind of understand it but Im still confused. Please explain ^_^

if its great distance, usually you don't use the eyes as settings anymore, that's just a cheat as for the camera tend to make a person's eyes focal point. There are other tutorials that explained how to do it, it might help you out: [link]

i covered only some basic concepts... I hope it helps. Usually they show you how to build things from the ground up, but not how to tear things down to the ground.

I got a good grade for the building I drew and even some bonus points for helping people
So yes it helped alot! ^.^

Proven to me just how more complicated drawing can get. I do however feel happier about 3d modelling and designing, rather than drawing.

GREAT tutorial.

You know kolei up there looks like a fusion of the 4 tail unlocked Kyubii form of naruto and sasuke. Nice tutorial BTW! I didn't know you were so good with buildings as well. Dang~~~~. Do all mangaka draw the panel fully on his own? as in if there is a sprawling cityscape, with minimal charater portrayal, does he have to do that also?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mayshing In reply to ironsonic [2006-09-13 13:54:29 +0000 UTC]

Well, yes and no. Some mangakas actually get helpers to do it after they have published their work. Others, most often, do not. So we have to know how to do everything decently first, other wise it's a drop of grade in our manga. ^^b

One can still get published without knowing these things, but the graphic quality just won't be as good.

Yeah, its not completely accurate.

pika In reply to mayshing [2006-09-12 13:32:47 +0000 UTC]

yea xD; Many forgets that the perspective goes "in" to the mirror O.o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mayshing In reply to pika [2006-09-13 13:55:21 +0000 UTC]

I fixed and redid the image, I hope it's more accurate now. (3 point reflection was such a pain to set up. XD)
