Description
This image was rendered as two separate layers. The first was with the scene minus the fog, and contained inside a glossy cube set to 200, 200, 200.
The second render included the fog prop, and with the scene bounding cube set to matte 0, 0, 0.
Both renders were then combined in paint shop pro 5, with the fog render layer set to lighten.
No other post work other than to add the sig and banner.
Items used;-
(Daz3v1.2.32 to Reality1v25 to Lux0v8)
Sacrament by Jack Tomalin; Contained in a glossy cube (with diffuse set to 200,200,200 for the first render, and set to matte 0,0,0 for the fog render)
Several planes set up outside the Sacrament model to prevent light leakage around the geometry... as shown here... [link]
Mortis For Sacrament by Jack Tomalin
Cyborg Version 4 by DzFire
The Nun by SWAM/Silencer/Sarsa
Reality Fog prop set to amount 3, Rays 3 (rendered as separate layer)
Reality Light scaled to 1% outside the stained glass window; black body = 5061, gain = 1.0
Candle flames from Free Candle Set by John Reilly [link] used inside the top of each visible Sacrament candle; each Sacrament candle set to 0.8 Opacity in Reality. John's candle flames set to gain 0.5, black body 2020
Cyborg V4 Eye.lens converted to light @ 1w with full blue colour 0,0,255. Gain = 0.0016 in Lux
Bloom set in Lux to amount = 0.01 Radius = 0.07
Camera focal length = 30mm
resolution = 1920 x 1200
Render 01;- (shown here... [link] )
1/2sec f4.0 iso 1250
samples per pixel = 6,950
first render time = 11 days 7 hours
Render 02 (fog render);- (shown here... [link] )
1sec f2.8 iso1250
samples per pixel = 2,850
second render time = 7 days 22 hours
Total render time for combined image = 19 days 5 hours
Rendering in Lux used 6.6Gb memory to hold the scene.
EDIT:- There is related info here on creating stained glass and using it with the fog prop... [link]

This is so epic!! Wow! You've done this before, haven't you? That was a joke.
When I saw your thumbnail in my mailbox I shouted for Masha to come over because she likes your art too. We oohed and awed appropriately.
She says you get better and more daring with every render.
This is amazing. I think I have this set somewhere because I know I have a big cathedral but because it's so big, it always intimidates me because I wouldn't know how to light such a large area. You got chops. Masha said to say that. She had to explain it to me.
Yeah, you definitely have chops.
19 days. ...wow. So how many computers do you go through in a year?

very nice combination here. Impressive result.
Thnx for the time you took into this
A lot of people look into this and say, nice art, but don't notice the time you put into this...
I love this

A masterpiece ! The control of the lighting is perfect ! the result is absolutely beautiful though render time is quite long (GPU based engines are faster )

Thanks John! ...thanks for the candles... I will try to get to test the new flame this week; I have an idea! `¬)

Very cool. I like how the mixed fog effect came out. Fog is still one of those areas where I usually hate the results in Lux, so the idea of combining two different renders is an interesting approach. The effect of the stained glass on the floor is most excellent.
I also really like the Sacrament set, and also tend to use the Mortis textures for it more than its original textures. With the candles that came with it, given the distance the candles are from the camera, I think you could have gotten away putting small cylinder primitives above each of the wicks that the sacrament candles have. (Or maybe just make the wicks the emitter.) This is akin to what I do when I have candles or flames in a scene... I have the flame (usually a textured plane) in one light group and a cylinder primitive inside the flame set to 1900k in a separate light group. Let it render, and the cylinder will burn out, but then turn that off and export the tonemapped image to a separate file and then load both layers into an image editor and erase the burned out cylinder to let the flame come through. Still doesn't get around the fact that flames that are just an image-mapped plane still look like crap, but at least you get the illumination you'd expect from a candle in your scene. But again, since your candles are so far away from the camera here, just using the primitives and letting them burn out would be fine I think.
For the candle wax, I've been setting them to matte transparent. That helps let the top of the candle glow a bit, too. I'll have to try your .8 transparency and see how it compares.

Thanks! My first attempt was way over the top! So spent some time in getting it set up how I wanted it. You are right about the candle flames, although I used John's candle in the Mad Science render, so simply did a similar thing here... John has done me a proper morphable candle flame now, but I have not had the chance to try it yet. Once I have, I'll see if he will put it up with his freebies... The opacity only really works if you are some distance away I think; it depends on what other light you have in the scene. I did play a bit with the matte translucent too, but have not found a good balance yet! `¬)

I'd be very curious to see the results with the morphable candle flame. Even if he doesn't release it, I'd like to see how it comes out. But here's hoping it works well and he does release it...

Thanks, sometimes the fog works best if its balanced to the lighting, so I tried to make it very subtle here! `¬) ...rendering on seperate layers helps the control as well... worth playing with it to see!
