Description
Several people have voiced a wish to create ripples, and this can be done with Dformers in Daz Studio.Although Dformers can be quite daunting, to use them for making ripples can be straight forward.
The original information that was passed on to me, via the Reality forum thread at Daz, was from Abramo, who goes by the user name ~borodin3 here on Deviant Art, so I have to thank him for the original source of this information.
I present it here in the hope that it will inspire some creative use when dealing with water ripples of various sorts.
This first part will show how to create a basic circular ripple, and part two here, [link] , will show a few more ideas using the same method used here.
EDIT: Bonus 'final render' tutorial here... [link]
This tutorial is done in Daz Studio 3 and Reality 1.25, but I assume the principles will be the same in Daz4!?

Perfect! I have used deformers quite a lot, but I failed realize you could add those extra points to the spline curve. Well, I never bothered to read any tutorials about the real basics before setting out on Daz 1.5 years ago, so....

thank you! I hope it makes things easier to do! ...check out all three, and just try each out. If you have any issues, then just ask...

hehe sure am glad you did this tut, I had it planned, but you have me beat Nice job, buddy, this is exactly what I did to get the ripples effect.
One hint to make it look like a boat's going by (very slowly), first make the whole thing thinner from side to side then the front to back (oval shape), then move the d-former control to front (in which way the boat's going). You'll notice the ripple's "pushed" like a boat would do, and on the back side has a little less effect.
This is a great tut to have for the Luxrender groups, buddy!!!

cool, and that's a very good thing. Not sure if I'll be using it anytime soon, I've gotten away from 3D rendering since I got involved with Mandelbulb fractals, but I wanted to make sure I faved it for future use

Oh wow, I used to tinker with fractint many years ago, (did you know that every point on a mandelbrot set leads into a different Julia set), at that time it was just becoming possible to render them in 3d, that was when I had a 386... nothing like the quality 3d fractals now! [link]

hmm interesting...I never used Fractint... used to use Apophysis for normal 2D fractals, until I found MB3D, and now I'm totally addicted to it. I don't really understand the math involved... and only understand what some of the formulas do from trial and error... but I keep trying... lol
I really do need to get back into Bryce and Daz Studio... been a long time since I really did anything with either one. I was having a bit of trouble getting used to DS 4... everything is so different in that compared to DS 3

I've been using Daz Studio for about 18 months now, had it for longer but never got into it until Reality came along to allow the use of the physically based rendering system call Lux... It allows almost photorealistic images if you apply the same lighting as you would for a real camera...
P.S. just doing a render of a water drop as done with this Dformer technique... should be ready to up load tomorrow!

cool... I didn't know about Reality or Lux... I just always used the internal rendering. And I admit, both DS and Bryce always left me a little disappointed in render quality.
I'll have to look into Reality.
I'll be sure to check out that render!
