Description This is Sean Boundy, who will be playing Dr. William Birkin in our Resident Evil fan film my friends and I are working on. I took one of his photos into Photoshop and used the smudge tool, burn tool, paint, etc. just to get a feel for the proportions of the creature FX/prosthetics I'll be doing. This is all done on one layer (still need to learn Photoshop, been learning little bits at a time lol). I used official Resident Evil 2 (the game) concept art as a reference, and tried to adapt it so it'll look right on a real person...for example, if I used the same proportions from the game it'd look retarded and he'd barely be able to move since this creature won't be done using CG. We're currently planning out how to get the eyeball to move, and how I'll be constructing the whole thing so Sean can move well and look good. I noticed on the concept art his skin is falling apart and he's transforming from the inside out...so I'm really go to try to emphasize that while making this.

Resident Evil is copyright of CAPCOM entertainment, this is a work of fan art.

This is an old project no longer being worked on.

I took a photo of my ex boyfriend, and then painted over it in Photoshop. It's a photo manipulation.

Hello friend ... is very good ... but one question ... where is your other hand? I go 2 ... and it came out your movie?

Hi, thanks!

This project is dead, we're no longer producing it, and I am no longer a part of it.

Where is my other hand?? I'm sorry I don't understand. This monster only has one monster hand (if that's what you mean), and I never finished this photo manipulation.

Oh okay, I see.

No, we weren't doing that stage of Birkin, we were doing an earlier stage .

Thanks!

It never got finished, and I've 100% detached from this group of individuals. I've also lost most interest in Resident Evil since then, the group sorta left a bad taste in my mouth unfortunately. This was fun at the time though.

Welcome and truly sorry to hear it didn't work out. I know a few people who had the same problem with some Star Wars groups and lost interest in Stars Wars, cosplay, movies, shows and all. Too bad I was looking forward to see how Birkin came out, I'm thinking of working on a Birikn 1st form for Otakon, just got to figure out the arm. Any suggestions?

Meadowknight In reply to shardin2 [2011-11-28 21:26:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...unfortunately many nerdy groups are quite clickish (and prideful oddly enough XD), and the Birkin here is my ex boyfriend from yeaaaaaars ago, lol. So that doesn't help. I was actually able to get over weirdness with him even though i was the one hurt, but even after that hurtle, things weren't good with the other people involved. Part of it was me too of course...I have trouble relating to or getting along with people who's ONLY passion is nerdy things and how good their costume looks, lol. I prefer real life whenever possible . I think for the most part individual geek friends are just more fun to do things with, less drama, more care in the ACTUAL friendship, and for each other... etc..

Anyways....lol...

I'm not too sure how to help give you suggestions on an arm since we never got around to making an actual real life piece. I did some fiddling in photoshop as seen here just for concept work. I have some special FX experience (for film not fan stuff), so I know of a few materials that may help. What we were going to do was, build up the bulk of the arm with mattress foam and carve it with a heat gun and hot knife. Technically you could probably sculpt the entire thing this way. but it also depends on what function you want...like if you're going to have the eye static, or try to rig something so it can move. We talked over many ideas that I don't fully remember now, that never happened cause of all the BS within the group. Another thing for texturing/a bloody look...is you could coat the foam in liquid latex that's been mixed with a dye. In the FX shop I worked with the stuff to create a thing called a "nernie" (which I actually have a photo of in the FX portion of my gallery). You could make some nernies but also directly coat the foam arm with the liquid latex. I dyed mine with red, black and an orange color at the shop.

I hope that helps!

Apologies if I open any old wounds ^_^" I agree I like cosplaying for fun and not make it into a serious matter and cause drama with others. I thought of going with the foam and latex. Definitly gonna give the heat gun a try. I like to have move movable in the arm, I haven't decide what to do with the eye or create the claw. I like to create something similar to what you drew cause it's not huge and arm is consistant with one certain texture. The nerine looks real good, is it tough to get the latex into that pattern? I haven't played with latex in a few years from my makeup class. Thank you for the help and welcome-_^ and hope all is better for you

No worries...that was a few years ago, been healed for a few years now...and live and learn. It's easier for me to detect now which friends/people are worth my time and energy, and which are shallow/into themselves . Maybe that's harsh, but it's their choice to be those types of people!

Yeah, I only randomly cosplay now...and will have fun throwing a costume together, but I hardly do it anymore.

What I was going to try for the hand...was to somehow sculpt monster fingers over a glove, with an emphasis on the long claws. If done too meaty it will restrict movement depending on what you use...and you don't want it to look like a foam muppet or something. What I suggested doing for our film (which the person in charge didn't agree with), was to do a semi-practical monster Birkin.....not as far fetched as he is in the game since that would be difficult to pull off without any budget, without having the hand look really cheesy. So I was going more for.."How monstrous can we make the actor's hand without restricting movement?". Movement is more convincing than oooowww lets make it HUGE. Depends on what you're going for.

To make nernies...after mixing in the latex pigment...you get a huge paint brush and brush it onto a smooth surface (like the clear plastic in my photo). After it dries (almost fully dries)...you simply smudge it with your thumb until you get the same result as in my photo. Then when you peel them off...they sorta clump into veiny matter.

But really, whatever you end up doing..I've not made the Birkin (can't give you directions really), so just try what seems practical and don't be afraid to experiment.

Looks pretty sweet. My suggestion would to make the arm more muscle-enriched, even if it is stage 1.

DAMN! Thats pretty good. Are you putting a video on youtube? I am. I'm making movies based on the Resident Evil video games, I'll be playing as Chris Redfield. I think I can upload a few photos on here, cause I wanna show everyone all of my STARS uniforms for the video. Anyway, If you're making a video about Resident Evil, then I can't wait to see it. ^_^

Hi, thanks!

Yes, when it's done we'll be posting it on youtube, or SOMEWHERE where everyone can see it. Right now, and for a while now we've been in the pre-production stage trying to figure things out since this is the first time any of us has done this. I worked at an FX shop last winter, and a friend of mine from there recently offered to help us with all the creature FX! Thanks to him backing us, I'm confident we can move forward now. Mike is also re-writing the script and so far he's improved it quite a bit (and it was good before). Things have been stale for a bit, but with my FX friends help, and a few other promising changes I think this is going to take off. For now we're filming some short stories with our USF characters to break us in/get our feet wet. We just started filming one with my character, Agent BUTTERFLY. If you're interested I just posted a journal entry about it.

Cool, I'd like to see your Chris ostume when you get pics up!

well, well, well prepare for an education that'll knock your proverbial socks off. `jackdirt is a deviant who for reasons unknown to me is celebrated by the site as some life-long member. one of his deviations is a little animation of two bunnys thumbing it in and i guess the emoticon is in tribute to said deviant and deviation.KAPLAAA!
