Description
This was the picture I was about to upload before I came across the Sinodendron cylindricum , it's jewel beetle Phaenops cyanea and its larvae live under bark of dead pines. I saw at least a dozen of them crawling on them, landing on them and taking off again. It was like watching tiny blue sparks. Jewel beetles are such delight to observe.
In case anyone wonders, this is a female. And you'd be surprised just how long her ovipositor is (at least 5 mm). That is a sentence I just wrote.
