Description Here are some presets to create realistic gemstones, that I have found during my testings. They can still be improved, so if you have some tips don't hesitate to share. But, for having testing them several time on jewels, I think they work already pretty good.

Depending on the meshes, the result is more or less effective, like you can see on the "rectangular" stones.

The one important thing to rembember is to put "Angle" at 0, otherwise your mesh will be smooth (well, except if it's what you want...).

I hope you'll find it useful.

And why not take the gem shaders from the Nvidia MDL Library (AEC - Design - Gems)? They are based on the Thick Glass shader from the same library and change some of its parameters according to the functions from vMaterials / Design / utilities / gem_definition.

Very quick example, MDL ruby:
Description ("Design - Gems - Ruby (Default values based on 2cm stone size.)"):
transmission_color: 1, 0.3294118, 0.8196079 // Color effect for transmission independent of thickness of the object.
glass_color: 0.2666667, 0.007843138, 0.01568628 // Color effect for the volume of the object at transmission distance.
        roughness: 0.06,
        volume_ior: 1.78,
        dispersion: dispersion on / off
        abbe_number: 72.2
        base_thickness: clarity * 0.03
"Clarity" is defined by the gem shader parameter and is described as "Use to adapt to size of gem, smaller numbers darken the gem" (default = 1). By the way, MDL does not seem to use Top Coat.
P.S. Here someone laid out Nvidia MDL Library 1.4, adapted for DS. But I can not find it yet.

Thank you for the tip, I was not aware of the Nvidia MDL Library.

I'll check that when I'll get more time.

It's my pleasure. MDL Lib has a big plus in that shaders are built based on the properties of real materials.

Some useful links:
A quick guide to working with MDL Lib - written specifically after viewing your work. Unfortunately, I do not have enough time for translation (and patience).
mdlhandbook.com - a site owned by Nvidia, with an understandable description of MDL. It's bad that it is not updated often and some information is still missing (for example, volumes)
vMaterials 1.5 AEC - adapted for DS half MDL Lib v1.5, without "Design" section. v1.5 presently last version. It seems to me that the same author laid out almost the full v.1.4, but apparently deleted.

Thank you for the links. I'll study all of that.

Sorry for the late response, I have accumulated notifications during summer.

I try to catch up now. ^^
