Got this idea after reading someone's journal saying that SEGA is repeating the, "Making characters no one cares about" after the character Sticks was finally given a name, even though I see her as the american version of Marine. And then it hit me, other franchises have featured so many characters and yet nobody goes bat shit crazy over that. Just goes to show that the Sonic fanbase is the most sensitive fanbase of them all.All things belong to their owners, as I own nothing

Complaining about too many characters sounds stupid to me, you can't make the entire world work with just a few people.

Seriously? People complain about too many characters (and that picture only has characters who have Sonic Channel pictures and not even all of those)? I'd rather complain about the fact that the characters aren't used actively (except for Sonic, Tails and Eggman). I mean, I think there are just too many games where Sonic is the only playable character. And the last non-spinoff and non-crossover game with multiple playable characters was Sonic 06. If I'm correct, Sonic has more characters than Mario but Mario has more active characters. What sets Mario's ginormous collection of characters from Sonic's is that some we don't even see again after one game. As for Street Fighter, some characters like Ryu and Bison are regarded as some of the greatest video game characters of all time.

I've been saying this for a while now. I don't mind the extra characters in any game so long as I enjoy the game.

The reason as to why is because the first people who complained about it had legitimate reason behind their logic and knew what they were talking about. Then parrots who didn't know any better started spewing the short version of the message, making people think something entirely different then what the original complaint was even addressing.

At least characters in Sonic have some purpose and story other than "You're an extra fighter," "You're a boss," and "Your a character with no plot in the main game and only appear in spin-offs"

I think the reason why they complain about Sonic having too many characters is because SEGA does nothing to them. The characters are treated like trash by them. They just appear in certain games and then get dumped again. SEGA nowadays only wants money and does not take care of the characters anymore.

I think, the main reason is the franchise called "Sonic the Hedgehog"... I mean if it was called like "Sonic and his team", or "Mobian heroes", or "Mobian league of badasses", critics, audience and everyone else would never ever cared about the huge characters numbers...

Sorry but people who actually think like that are very narrow minded. Sonic is a series altogether, it doesn't mean that Sonic has to be the one and only protagonists, it means that's the name of the game. End of story.

I just made an assumption. Personally, I've heard a few thoughts about what if the universe is not called "Sonic the Hedgehog" but as something differently, they would not shout about the fact that there are too many characters.
I mean what the name implies one character and psychologically people mean a single character. And it's Sonic. That's why I made this assumption.

It still only serves as a justification for narrow minded people. No need to give them any defense, especially when that logic holds no ground. Even then, if people are going to go by that logic, then they need to take a second look at the title and realize that the game is NOT called "Sonic the only character who matters".

You're right, I agree with you, but still, people are beings who think linearly. If they see a character in the name, in their heads firmly solidifies the idea that, that this is the onlyΒ character who matters. That would make sense if it weren't for the fact that this only applies to loudmouth fanboys, and not the bigger audience as a whole who actually liked many of those other characters, even more then Sonic. Case in point, there's nothing to link them but pure ignorance on the part of a minority, the same minority who wants everything out of the Sonic series that can actually be enjoyed. You should also look into the fact that many of those same people have no problem with Sonic Boom, regardless how the other characters are treated, yet hated on Satam for not being like the games or too dark.
