So as we've all heard by now Mania is currently the highest rated Sonic game in 15 years, and rightfully so since it's a fantastic game all around and deserves to be played by everybody. However there's a bit of a misconception over something, it's about people claiming that this is the first good Sonic game in several years, and Sonic fans are complaining that they said before that games like Colors and Generations saved the franchise and are now apparently flip flopping how Mania's the only good Sonic game in decades. Well have you ever stopped to think that mayb.. all who am I kidding you've already read the meme. For all we know those same people may have hated Colors and Generations, and didn't consider them the games that saved Sonic, maybe Mania really is the only Sonic game they've liked in such a long time? Like take Destructoid's reviews of both Generations and Mania, the former says that Generations is a solid title, while the latter ignores that game and starts with the usual Sonic's had a pretty bumpy ride over the last decade introduction, well that's because they weren't reviewed by the same person since Jim Sterling the guy who made the former review for Destructoid left the website to create The Jimquisition, So Mania was reviewed by a different writer for the website and that's why it feels familiar to a lot of similar reviews. In fact this is the same reason why RoL actually has a slightly higher score than Colors on Destructoid since Jim hated Colors while the guy who reviewed RoL only found his game to be mediocre. "Well if the people who are saying this is the only good Sonic game in years actually disliked Colors and Generations, then where are the ones that did praise those two?" well those guys are probably the ones who aren't saying shit like that. Going back to Jim one last time, during his own review of Mania, he didn't say anything about Sonic not having any good games in several years, hell he even said he actually liked Sonic 4 (albeit he also followed up that statement by saying Mania made him realize the latter should have had the former's title, but my point still stands), the only thing he says is that Sonic games can end up really good or screw up very horribly and Mania was thankfully the former. Now don't get the wrong idea that I'm defending the people who say Mania's the only good game in years, that's completely stupid and they only say it just for attention, like I even saw an article online saying how Mania was the first good Sonic game ever made ... yeah that's an article where you only need to read the headline to know it's bullshit. I'm only saying you shouldn't go around spreading misinformation about people flip flopping when you don't have any proof that the same person who said Mania's the only good Sonic game in years is the same exact person who said Colors and Generations saved the series 6 years ago. One last thing, when people say Mania is the best Sonic game in years, that doesn't necessarily mean they think it's the only good Sonic game in years unless they also say that. That's like saying "X" is the best TV show in years, that doesn't mean you think it's the only good TV show in years that's just ridiculous.
