"Colors and Generations are truly the games of the internet fandom and not the real world. You have to be really careful when it comes to games that are praised on the internet. The internet is dominated by hardcore nerds. Nerds naturally have no concept of what is mainstream and popular. Being the social outcasts that they are, how can they see what is quality beyond their own asses? But as long as they have the Dark Knight trilogy, they can feel justified in their opinions so as long as a review from a major website validates them. Especially since nowadays, SA2 gets so much hate yet makes PSNβs sales charts for 2 months in a row. Nigga please. We already know what the fans want, so you can hang that shit up right now."conflictingviews.wordpress.comβ¦

"Sales don't mean quality"
It does when it comes to what people actually want, but quality is only an issue for hardcore gamers. This is about success, not your opinion.
"just that it was marketed well."
Or maybe people were just interested enough to buy the game, Sega did nothing out of the ordinary to sell it outside of the demo not being close to the final product.
"Some of the most terrible stuff has still made a lot of money."
That doesn't take away from the main issue, especially since 06 isn't as terrible as you fanboys claim.
"Take for instance, The Emoji Movie."
Don't give a damn.
"Do you see the flaws in your logic now?"
No, because we're talking about what people wanted, not their opinion on quality, mileage that differs with more people then just yourself. Stop being mad at the truth, people bought 06 despite it's flaws because they were actually interested.

Don't Give a Damn sounds more like a cop-out to me, saying that you aren't listening to my fact that something that is terrible can still sell well. I'm sure people didn't actually want The Emoji Movie, yet that still grossed a lot more than actually good movies like John Wick and Kubo and the Two Strings. I'm not sure if they were actually interested in it either, but I'm sure I can find plenty other movies and video games that were terrible but still sold well, if you really want me to.

No you do give a damn, you came to mean pulling that quality cop-out all of you drones do and have done for years whenever sales are brought up for something you don't like. Nobody asked what you thought was good or bad, so there's nothing I need to hear from you on the subject. The article I quoted this from was talking about success, not your opinions.
"I'm sure I can find plenty other movies and video games that were terrible but still sold well, if you really want me to."
Again, this isn't about what's terrible or not, nor does it counter the fact that people had high interest in something regardless of the outcome. Fact is, Sonic 06 had far more interest and sells then most games after it, no amount of bitching about it will make a difference.

I never said anything about anything being good, nor I never had any interest in the movie, YOU keep talking about this, so I don't know how you think you can put words in my mouth about it.
We're talking about 06, and believe or not it's not as bad as you fanboys want everyone else to think, but again, quality isn't the issue unless someone actually says sales = quality, which I didn't say, again, YOU did.

sonic unleashed was not a bad game,it was the first 3d sonic game I ever played and I liked it so much I wanted to play more 3d sonic games.
any way I am not saying that sonic unleashed was the best sonic game or one of the best(even if I wanted I can't since sonic unleashed and sonic heroes are the only 3d sonic games I have ever played)but you are dead wrong when you say that unleashed is hatted game.
once in a video of watchmojo.com I posted a comment that I enjoyed sonic unleased and many people agreed with me.

"Colors and Generations didn't even scratch the surface of 06's success."
Actually, if you go on vgchartz.com (a website dedicated to video game sales figures) and look up the sales of Generations and 06, you'll find evidence to the contrary. As the site shows, the 360 and PS3 versions of Generations combined sold a total of 3.05 million copies, while sonic 06, which was released only on those two consoles, had both versions combine to sell only 2.23 million copies. Just Google those games for said website, and you'll find out.
And yes, the Wii version of Colors only sold 1.74 million copies, but that's actually pretty decent sales if you really think about it, and I bet if it were released on other home consoles other than just the Wii, it would have passed the sales of 06. Additionally, the DS version sold 1.37 million copies, and I know those two versions are completely different, but those sales combined together reach 3.11 million, easily surpassing 06. Additionally, if you add the sales figures for the PC and 3DS versions of Generations (1.12 million combined) onto the sales for the 360 and PS3 versions, it reaches 4.17 million copies, nearly two million greater than the sales of 06. These stats also come from vgchartz.com. Again, just Google it.
Oh, and also, I've played all three games, and in my eyes, Colors and Generations are legitimately good games (two of my favorites in the series, in fact), while 06 was just terrible. These are my own opinions, by the way; I didn't get them exclusively from reviewers. Honestly, fuck Metacritic, I don't trust their scores. Example: Sonic Unleashed, which was subject to some brutal reviews from so-called "professionals", is one of my top 5 favorite sonic games.

I know of the site, and Generations sales weren't much better then games in the past, especially Heroes, Unleashed, and Secret Rings, and with market inflation, selling around the same numbers is actually a problem.
The sales of Colors Wii aren't "pretty decent", it sold less then most games before it, making it a failure in comparison to them.
Being good or not isn't the issue here.Β If people don't buy the games then quality means jack shit. You're own opinion is also withstanding.

TrajectoryMan In reply to Psyco-The-Frog [2016-09-03 07:22:43 +0000 UTC]
Sorry, but the picture implied that 06 was more successful than generations, and I was just proving the contrary. Also Secret Rings sold 2.77 million, which I don't exactly consider "about the same number".
About Colors Wii selling less, you didn't say jack about how I combined the Wii and DS versions; I kind of want to know what you have to say about that. Also, the two combined to sell 1.85 million in its first two weeks alone, anything to say about that?
"If people don't buy the games then quality means jack shit. *Your own opinion is also withstanding."
I was actually responding to what you said in the description assuming that so-called "nerds" can "feel justifiedΒ in their opinions so *long as a review from a major website validates them". Any thoughts now?
π: 0 β©: 1
Psyco-The-Frog In reply to TrajectoryMan [2016-09-03 07:38:27 +0000 UTC]
It was. You can't have a game only sale about .4 or 5 million more units 5 years after another games and say it's more successful. Secret Rings from one time I had seen it, sites tend to have different numbers, was over 3 million for the longest time. One other site says it was at 1.2 million.
About Colors, the DS game is a totally different game the the Wii title, basically being Sonic Rush 3. Even if that were the case, the Wii version of Colors should've sold more on it's own anyway, given how bad the Wii library was for most folks. So combining the sales with a port that only kept it's name isn't going to help that argument.
Ok, here's the thing some people seemed to have missed. I clearly linked an article right under the comment, which the comment was pasted from, meaning they weren't my words. But there's also another problem, he wasn't comparing the gameplay of the games, he only brought up the reviews. I only kept that part there because people do use reviews sites to validate their opinions, rather then looking at the facts. Point is, because reviews say so, 06 is called a failure even though it was more successful, the quality of the games was not the point of that.

TrajectoryMan In reply to Psyco-The-Frog [2016-09-03 07:50:48 +0000 UTC]
Actually it was 800,000 more units than 06, that is, if you don't count the DS (I know it's completely different, but still) and the PC versions. I'd like to know what you think about that now.
I know the DS version was different, I even said that in the original comment. Also, what do crappy shovelware games have to do with the sales of another game?
π: 0 β©: 1
Psyco-The-Frog In reply to TrajectoryMan [2016-09-03 11:31:55 +0000 UTC]
You're pretty much attempting to grasp at straws if even that 800,000 feels like much of an arguments. That was 5 years after 06 came out, it's called market inflation, I.E. more people having access to product over a course of time, and the games counted as saving the franchise can't sell that much better then the rushed game people claim almost killed it, even though the next two games did well right after it. That is not a success.
If you know they are different, then you wouldn't be quick to add them into the argument. Also, what do you mean "what do crappy shovelware games have to do with the sales of another game?"? That's the damn competition, and Colors, despite me not liking it, kills most of those games, yet people still kept passing it up. Generations at the very least were on consoles with more games people wanted to buy, but Colors should've had more buyers from Wii owners. Colors did much worse regarding that fact alone.

I clearly believe that Sonic 06 and Sonic Unleashed were the best games Sega made from my perspective. I don't care at all about the glitches in Sonic 06, nor do I care about the slower paced action in Sonic Unleased. Both had their redeeming qualities that made them stellar pieces of work, even if Sonic 06 was rushed a little.
Sonic 06 provided a compelling story andΒ uniqueΒ gameplay than most other Sonic games. Plus, it introduced several relatively newer characters to the gaming franchise. Yes, I know about Silver and Blaze.
But, this game was overlooked, mainly because of it being rushed and having glitches? Just be thankful that they made a game for you, and for it being extremely popular.
Sonic Unleashed provided a very unique experience as well as stellar graphics and a compelling story. I loved every part of that game. The exploration, the levels, everything. Yet, it is so overlooked because of the Werehog? Good lord, that is so disappointing. SEGA does something different than the mainstream, and it has to be thrown out of the water almost instantly.
Sometimes, the gaming community can really get on my nerves with what they want and don't want and what they accept and don't accept. It's just Far Cry Primal. The Ubisoft community asked for a prehistoric-like game and it was given to them in bulk! But, everyone had to complain about it...again. Just be thankful that they listen to the community!

That's pretty much true. Back in the day, Sonic was about appealing to everyone. Now, every other game since Heroes is about appealing to a certain group of fans, but since Unleashed, Sega has shown(and said) they wanted to appeal to Nintendo fans, which is why the more successful titles last generation was both episodes of Sonic 4, and the rereleases for Sonic Adventure 2(did extremely well, one of the top 10 best selling PSN for a few months straight) and Sonic CD. The rest had lagging sells.

And I really don't undearstane why unleashed got so much hate I would say because of the wii and PS2 version but even on 360 and PS3 people still hated on it because of the werehog segments the day segments were still there and it had a hub world and actually is an adventure game. Sellsare determined by interest, and 06 had enough of people interest to sell. Yes it was a bad game, but a game doesn't need to have quality gameplay to be enjoyable, and people did enjoy 06, it just pissed off a bunch of nerds on the internet. Plus, many of those same people defended Sonic Boom, which was just as broken and the worst selling Sonic title, so the quality factor is bullshit.
Sonic Unleashed just got hate for the Warehog sections, which weren't even bad, and going back to Boom being defended, it was basically the warehog sections for the entire game, so again, bullshit.

Well, I realise you're not exactly inclined to like the newer ones, but I looked at sales data the other day and while it is true that '06 sold 2.15 million copies (both consoles) and Unleashed sold 2.45 million (Don't know if it includes the Wii PS2 version, it probably does since it didn't make platinum by my knowledge) making it the best selling Sonic game since Sonic Adventure at 2.5 million (Just on the Dreamcast), Colors still sold 2.18 million copies (don't know if it includes the DS version, it probably does) and Generations sold 1.85 million (I think that also includes the 3DS version), and that somewhat lower number is quite likely due to illegal torrenting, which is probably what a lot of PC users did and the fact that it had a PC version probably also decreased sales of physical copies. Lost World did indeed sell only about 700.000, but that might also partly be due to the bad Wii U sales at the time.
Trust me, I don't hate '06, but don't say stuff that isn't true. Colors matched '06 in success, and if you include illegal downloads, Generations might actually rival Unleashed. And clearly none of them stand up to Sonic 1 and 2 in sales figures (15 and 6 million respectively, quite likely due to ports and the like.)Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Psyco-The-Frog In reply to HyperSonicXdA [2015-03-16 21:00:54 +0000 UTC]
Colors and Gens sales only amount over 2 mil because of the DS sales, and the DS games are completely different games then the console versions. Not only that, but market inflation from the time between 06/Unleashed to Colors/Gen, with those numbers, would indicate a problem even if the sales were the same.
Nothing there was said here was false(And everything here was copied from the article linked in the description), and also, don't try to bring torrents and pirating into this, as there is no sure way of knowing how much impact that actually had. Sonic 1 and 2 also weren't apart of the argument, of course they sold more, Sonic was a lot more popular at the time, and the ports have been around for a long time IIRC, so they're gonna keep generating sales even now.

Like I said Unleashed had its Wii version, and that was why it sold so high. It had a version for every console on the market at the time. So the DS argument sort of applies to Unleashed as well. And '06 was released for Christmas sales, so that was likely why it sold so high.

The argument doesn't imply because those were console ports, not handheld ports that are completely different, and while we're at it, Unleashed did have a cellphone game, IIRC, and not included in these numbers as well.
"And '06 was released for Christmas sales, so that was likely why it sold so high."
So what's the point of telling me this? The game sold enough to make platinum hits, regardless of how, aside from the fact that people were interested in buying it.

There's a big difference in a console port being different then another and a 2D handheld port of a console game. Also, I don't know if you thought you playing the Wii version was gonna make a difference, but I played the PS2 version years before I got the 360 version. The only difference in the PS2 version was watered down and didn't have hubs, but it's still the same shit.

The fact is that you're still boosting, you're still leveling, and the levels still have the same setting. At any rate, they do still count towards sells, as nobody said they didn't, it's the fact that the handheld of Colors and Gens are still completely different games on a completely different scale of Unleashed's consoles ports, bringing up the point of Colors and Gens sales coming from games of the same title but nothing like them.
