Let's be honest here, while I can understand people defending Sonic Unleashed, a game that was loved by fans since Day 1 (with only the corrupted professionals calling it bad), I will NEVER understand the sudden defense with Sonic 06, a game that was panned by both critics AND fans alike.

This kind of stems from the whole "Forces vs. 06" debate as to which is worse (which is a whole different debate), but every time I hear someone call 06 better because of the ambition... I don't think these people realize that Ambition only works if the rest of the game delivers, which 06 didn't. Now Sonic Unleashed, on the other hand, is a game with ambition that actually worked. From the gameplay, extra content, DLC, graphics, presentation, and even story, Unleashed had much more going for it. Sonic 06 with it's lack of thought on game design, piss poor attempt at extra content, DLC that isn't even worth the stupidly cheep price (And only a good chunk of it was exclusive to the Xbox 360), the uncanny art direction, the stilted presentation, and especially the god tier level of AWFUL of a story in both plot and writing, are EXACTLY the reasons why it was so hated.

Sorry, but I don't care if 06 was rushed. You don't do a half-assed attempt on your senior thesis and say "But I tried". It doesn't work that way!

Okay yes... I don't like the Werehog, I don't like the Medal collecting, plus Eggmanland and Dark Gaia just SUCK!!! But Unleashed has SO much more effort in it, I feel.

Unleashed actually had thought put into it's game design, keeping the themes "Day and Night", a surprising amount extra missions and collectables for both forms, DLC that not only remixes pre-existing stages but also ADDS more stages (And it was available for both the 360 and PS3), an art style that not only works for Sonic but also helps makes the game hold up visually extremely well, the presentation (while a little weird in animation) being far superior with the voice acting at least, and a story with a good balance of light and dark. The opening intro is STILL one of the best intros in the series and Sonic's Character was handled extremely well.

Sonic Unleashed had a lot going for it compared to Sonic 06. It's fine to have some ambition, but if you rely on it too much, it's going to make the game fall harder. It can be acknowledged later down the road, sure, but if the game sucked... it doesn't matter.
