Note: THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!Never have I felt so conflicted about a Sonic game before. Now, during the arguably lack luster build up overshadowed by Mania, there was a lot of controversy as far as the game's design choices, and I'll still stand by the fact that the people who want this game to fail are just outright selfish and immature. But now that the game is out and I've played it, I'll say this; It's not one of the best Sonic Games ever made, BUT, It's also far from being awful.
Let me start off with what I like. Firstly, while I'll agree that the level design might be too basic (Not so much linear), I did enjoy a good handful of stages like Aqua Road, Null Space, and Ghost Town. I also really enjoyed the Custom Avatar gimmick along with the wispons. There are so many customization options and the wispons don't feel as intrusive as the wisps from Sonic Generations (Console) or Sonic Lost World (3DS). For the next game, I'd say they should do it again only more fleshed out. The graphics look great and the lighting really does compliment the games art style. The story, while just meh and occasionally disappointing in a few areas, I still think it is a step up from Lost World and Boom. It has a more mature tone, similar to the Adventure games or SatAM, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. Personally, I like Infinite more than Mephilies. While Mephilies has a better back story, Infinite isn't potrayed as much of a dumbass. I think Classic Sonic controls a little better than his Generations counterpart, and the music, while not one of my favorite soundtracks, is still good.
As for my negatives, The Modern Sonic levels could've been better since they felt too basic. Though, I still think they're better than Black Knights level design. Also, the stage length as whole could've been better since a lot of these stages could be beaten in 1 or 2 minutes. Classic Sonic has no reason to be in this game period. He's just there. Lastly, the game as a whole does feel rushed. You don't even get to fight Chaos or Shadow. However, these negatives aren't enough to make me despise this game. But they are enough to make me say "This could've been better.
Overall, I just think that this game is just okay. For 4 years of development though, that's admittedly disappointing. But hey, at least it didn't turn out to be a glitchy mess like Rise of Lyric.

I’ll agree. I just think the hate on this game is WAY overblown imo.
I don’t think I’ll play it again, but it’s not THAT bad.

The only thing that I hate in Forces was Tails was cowering from Chaos even though he fought him in Chaos 4.

I’ll still take that Tails over Lost World Tails... because he was an asshole in that game, and it came out of nowhere.
But eh... I would replace Chaos with Metal Sonic. Actually I don’t think Tails fought ANY of the four Illusion Characters alone.
Chaos 4 - He was with Sonic and Knuckles, and his fight was the easy mode.
Shadow - Not once in the games
Metal Sonic - If Sonic 4 is Canon, then he had help from Sonic.
Zavok - He only fended him off in that one cutscene.
I don’t hate the scene in concept, but it needed some more detail to back it up. I can totally see Tails not being the same after he lost a friend especially in a war torn setting, but a little justification would be nice. That’s just me.

Let me rewrite the events of Forces.
After Infinite defeats Sonic for the first time,Tails tries to avenge Sonic but Infinite escapes with his allies with the Phantom Ruby.
Before the Resistance has formed,Tails left the group to find Omega.
The Zavok fight could be longer but you could use his moveset from Smash Bros to defeat Zavok after you use the homing attack.
Classic Sonic would fight Phantom!Chaos while keeping Tails hostage.

I think Sonic Forces is an okay game despite what critics says Even though I never played it... Classic Sonic for me I wouldn't play it because I never experienced Sonic in 90s so...
I first experienced Modern Sonic in 2003 or like 2004 (sonic adventure 2 battle and Sonic Heroes respectively).
I would be okay with a Modern Sonic Game Without Classic Sonic but this time it is Decent game and SEGA Should doing it right like Nintendo instead of being a crappy game Developer.

Yeah, why can’t Nintendo and Sega worked together instead to make a crossover game of their characters fight the ultimate villain in their crossover game called Nintendo and Sega All-stars?

I dunno, people have very mixed views on this game but I doubt there will be an official redo from Sonic Team.
It really does suck because of the Wii U deal with Lost World and Boom Rise of Lyric being the lowest sellers in the series, Sonic Forces was just in a really awkward spot.

Adventure 2... Maybe. Adventure 1... No, Play the Dreamcast Version.
And Sega ended up getting the short end of the stick. What, was the contract not allowed to be cancelled at any point? Nintendo was obviously the higher authority who went to Sega for help on their doomed console, so if they cared about quality just to at least buy some time for the Switch... then Nintendo should've called off the deal entirely. Especially since ROL was released, in the state that it was in, on the same month as SMASH 4 ON WII U!
Sorry... Just a rant.

I personally like the game mechanic they went for. Granted the customization was limited, but one can find a way to make it work. And three styles of playing, it's open to variety. So, Sega, good job.

If Sega wants to add a variety of gameplay to Sonic Games, Then they should stick with the boost formula.

gameman5804 In reply to Genosse-Nik-C [2017-11-12 15:30:34 +0000 UTC]
The Adventure formula really doesn't have much of a reason to have all these different styles of gameplay since the gameplay styles themselves, like treasure hunting, fishing, or even mech shooting, when they could've just been just extensions of what Sonic is. Plus, they felt more unnecessary given that the Adventure Formula is less flawed from a development viewpoint than the Boost Formula.

Well they don't seem to want many unique playstyles anyway, something that Forces shows, with how similar the Custom Hero is to Sonic. There was even an interview:www.gameinformer.com/games/son…

Which is a little better in all honesty. I have nothing against variety, but this kind of gameplay aspect should’ve been that way since SA1.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Genosse-Nik-C In reply to gameman5804 [2017-11-12 18:29:02 +0000 UTC]
I actually agree. I just want a game based on the Sonic stages in SA1/06 with better physics. Also I get that some people (sort of including me) dislike the unique playstyles but I still fail to understand why we can't play as Sonics friends, of course not all of them, but what's wrong with Tails, Knuckles or Blaze? The only people that don't like them are the ones who don't even like Sonics character.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
gameman5804 In reply to Genosse-Nik-C [2017-11-12 19:48:11 +0000 UTC]
But then there's another issue, stages. Between the methods of SA1/06 (where every stage had to be designed in a way to cater to all the characters) and SA2 (Which every character had their own separate stages), is pretty hard to say which one because they both have their strengths and weaknesses.
Personally though, I think the SA1/06 method works better for the Adventure Formula, while the SA2 method suits the Boost Formula more.

Personally, I liked Nitrorads review more because he came into it with a more open mind while still acknowledging the games flaws. I’ll be fine with another adventure styled game, but I still have my concern in regards of the vocal adventure fanbase.
I feel it does in a way because of the mixed reception and poor sales of Lost World and Boom. Sega ended up getting the short end of the stick because of Nintendo needing to boost the sales of the Wii U. Which the poor marketing of that console was entirely their fault. I’m sensing some spite here.

Don't know the guy, but I find Johnny incredibly charming and he might be my favorite youtuber. His reviews or no reviews. Jk of course, but I really enjoyed this review.
There's going to be bitching no matter what. I'm sure some people were very miffed that the N-Sane Trilogy wasn't the EXACT same as the original.
I don't think that's the case. Whatever mixed feelings were unleashed by Lost World and RoL, was already there after '06. And their poor sales aren't entirely the games' fault either. To put the Wii U's failing into perspective, the Switch is projected to outsell the Wii U's lifetime sales (less than 14 million) by the end of its FIRST YEAR. I don't know how Lost World on PC is doing though.
