Well I already defended Sonic 17, now it's time to defend Sonic Mania. I'd like to say that everyone is excited for Sonic Mania, but sadly I can only say a majority of people are excited for it. Some of the more stubborn fans claim it's just another nostalgia cashgrab that most people only care for because it's retro. Now the cashgrab thing I could put up for debate, but the whole most people only care for it because it's retro claim isn't very accurate, okay some diehard Classic fans may only like it for that reason, but the majority of us are excited for it because we generally think it looks good and for a few reasons. One is that Taxman is developing the game, since his ports of Sonic 1, 2, and CD are praised by many, we've wanted to see what he could do with his own original game and Mania is his chance to shine. Two is that the game isn't a Nintendo exclusive, After the past few years of pretty much every game coming to Nintendo only, we're glad that Sonic is branching out to other platforms again since not everyone owns a Nintendo console. Third is that after the dispointments of Lost World and Rise of Lyric, fans are just glad to see something that looks fun to play. Hell they could have gone the Sonic 4 route and made the characters resemble the modern versions and fans would still hype this game up. If you don't care about Mania then all well your loss, but don't act like a know it all and claim that people only care about it because Classic Sonic's in it. A good game is a good game regardless if Sonic's eyes are black or green.Related content

I really have very little reason to be exited about Mania not only am I not the biggest fan of the classics to being with but that does the so far shown Gameplay Scream Sonic CD Level design and I hate the level design in CD. To add a few more reason doesn't it look like this game is going to use its classic elements even half as creative as Sonic advance 3 and the Gameplay doesn't seam to get any major improvements and I highly daub that its going to be anything as good as the team system from Advance 3, There was no show off of any kind of story or cut scene and a game that reuses so many old levels really needs a good justification for that.
So As you see there isn't much of a reason as of right now to be exited about the game for me.

I won't be bought into the hype that easily, Sega. I have Sonic Mega Collection on Gamecube, I've played all in the Sonic trilogy, I am content.

That's probably because Christan Whitehead used to work on Sonic fangames before Sega hired him to make the 1, 2, and CD ports.Β

If it's a classic Sonic game, then it's nostalgia cash grab even though PEOPLE HAS BEEN ASKING FOR A GAME LIKE THIS FOR YEARS. Everywhere you go people wants 2D game or how 'Sonic needs to be like the classics' I'm excited for Project Sonic 2017 too, it has an cinema serious vibe to it.Β

That's still very good right? Majority of people are excited for a Sonic game again, even after the disasterΒ of Rise of Lyric and very mixed reception of Lost World. The Sonic series has been really rough the last few years, and a lot of people has been very cynical and negative towards it. It's nice to see people are excited for Sonic games again. It's like SEGA flipped a complete 180.

I'm in that boast of seeing it as a nostalgia crashgrab but after awhile I started seeing it as a fangame as of now I'm gonna skip this one and wait into Project Sonic 2017 comes out, but who knows I made change my mind and buy the game or at least wait to a price drop.

Eh, I'm on the fence about it. On one hand it looks extremely promising; Whitehead and the guys at Headcannon are the perfect choices for this, and already the game looks stunning. On the other hand, it's still SEGA hiding under its "It's still the 90's, right?" defence from the past five or so years. And that wouldn't be an issue to me if not for the fact that A: It looks extremely desperate to me at this point, like that's pretty much their only defence, and B: SEGA's not had the best track record for actually putting that nostalgia to good use. For every Generations, there's a Sonic 4. That's not to say I hate the game, on the contrary I hope it's the best thing ever, but I can't help but think the whole "WOO CLASSIC SONIC!" thing is getting a tad tired.

Not really. The actual Sonic 4 kinda put me off that sort of thinking. I see this more as a Classic-flavoured spin-off. Since, to me, that's pretty much what it is.

Also, not to mention that Freedom Planet is getting all the buzz and praise for the last two years, calling it the new Sonic the Hedgehog and that it's "The best Sonic game that SEGA will never make" etc. I wonder how they feel now.

Indeed. :3 it has classic influence yes, but what we're real hyped about is how fun it'll be!
