Got this idea after reading someone's journal saying that SEGA is repeating the, "Making characters no one cares about" after the character Sticks was finally given a name, even though I see her as the american version of Marine. And then it hit me, other franchises have featured so many characters and yet nobody goes bat shit crazy over that. Just goes to show that the Sonic fanbase is the most sensitive fanbase of them all.All things belong to their owners, as I own nothing

I personally don't give a shit how many or how few characters there are in a series, I just care that the games are fun and maybe have a good story too.

Yea, that's why I try not to think about how many characters are in that series, because it's a lot, it's not like a series like Metroid which only has a handful of characters.

You can have as many characters as you want so long as they're decently written and have a purpose for being here. At least that's where I stand.

This has a huge point. People bitch about characters like Shadow & Silver, but never ones like Rosalina, E. Gadd, Bowser Jr., Lubba, ect. being introduced in every new Mario game.
Ironically, we haven't seen many new characters introduced to the Sonic series in recent years much, or even the already-existing side-characters (like Shadow) appearing in the games much anymore aside from the "Olympics/Racing" spin-offs. So I don't get why people STILL whine about "ZOMG! SANIK HAS 2 MNAY CHARACTERZ!!!1"
I actually saw one gaming website say on a top 10 list to "improve" the Sonic series, one of the things was "the only characters should be Sonic & Robotnik." (I must add the other reasons were typical unpleasable old-school Sonic fanboy reasons.)
Which admittedly is kinda showing people are going overboard with the Sonic side-character hatred if we can't even have beloved characters like Tails or Knuckles now without pissing people off... (I don't know about you, but I'm glad Knuckles, and Amy are having their first playable roles sense "Sonic Advance 3.")
And ironically, Sonic 4:Ep.1 only had Sonic & Robotnik in it, and that didn't stop people from bashing it before it even came out... Even when Sega/Sonic Team/Archie/ect. GIVES the whiny fans WHAT THEY WANT it's STILL never ENOUGH!

I forgot what site it was on... It was a few years ago, back when the Sonic-hatred was at it's peek online.
I swear said list of "ways to improve the series" would actually anger half the Sonic fanbase ironically. Even if it was a professional gaming website the guy who wrote the article sounded like a childish fanboy. (Like Nicochi or something.)

I think the main problem is that compared to those other series, the sonic franchise has history of trying to put so many characters into a game while trying to make them seem important for that particular game. The Mario and Megaman Β games on the other hand, mainly just focuses on a few and the rest just as recurring or one time enemies or extra playable characters in spin offs.Β

I'm surprised you people come to these moronic assumptions without bothering on asking WHY people hate the Sonic cast but don't mind the Street Fighter cast, Megaman, or Mario casts!
In The Case of Street Fighter, and Megaman they started out with a cast of characters which tend have dimension to their personalities or in the case of Mario's cast come off as interesting and fun to watch to some people.Β
I've heard time and again how the Sonic cast aren't interesting as characters and serve no purpose...

The fact that you even AGREED with that image without indicating an understanding of why people hate the Sonic cast comes off as ignorant... Imo it's inexcusable simply because NONE OF YOU have my excuse.
