eh, sorry buddy but I don't test the new weapons anymore, since MvM stopped being relevant long time ago.

So, what do you have in mind for Pyro secondaries? Albeit a support class in that variation, the push pyro surely must have something other than the Annihilator for damage output in case of self-defense?

I personally use a powerjack for the boosted speed. Every last drop counts when running to ammo and time spent gathering ammo is time NOT spent doing your job.

That's a very good point, though then we're dealing with some pretty serious debuffs on pyro.
And taking a sapper down is pretty damn important, even if that either doesn't happen often or Pyro simply forgets he can help like that.
So that's really mixed opinions. I would keep on recommending neon/homewrecker.

Rainbowfallout In reply to Menaria [2015-09-03 12:29:04 +0000 UTC]
Admittedly the 20% damage taken is a threat, especially with high-power bots, but the speed IMO, outweighs the downsides. Especially when dealing with tanks, where it's a problem of pure DPS, and DPS isn't just about how much damage your weapon does, it's also about "Downtime" such as reloading (Which is why reload speed is so important), or time taken to grab more ammo, or making a mad dash for the bomb carrier.
Most of the time, I see robo-spies sap the sentry, while dispensers and teles placed off from the sentry area (Necessitated by sentry busters) are left alone in favor of more stabbing due to the way the spybot AI works, as the Sentry, to be blunt, isn't the main focus of the engie, it's only really an emergency item, you'll definitely feel the lack once the situation pops up, but you'll be slightly better overall at your job if you pick up the Powerjack.
So in the end, it's a question of versatility vs. efficiency, and I argue, in this situation, either is useful, there's no "One true build" for every slot.
But the Powerjack's head is bigger, and therefore better than the homewrecker's head, the Maul on the other hand.

Does the Scorch Shot's buffs effect this guide in anyway?

Scorch always used to be the most recommended, so after buff it stays this way even more.

When you said the Neon was better then the Homewrecker, I was about to say...
But then I realized you were expecting milk scouts
I play free MvM most of the time
Pistol scouts
Pistol scouts everywhere

Thing is though, as a personal taste, I prefer the Third Degree on my MVM Pyro; having crit canteens and full swing speed, I can attack both the bot the medic's healing, while dropping an uber. Granted, I understand why the Neon Annihilator is a superior choice, though every time I play MVM nowadays, when I pick pyro, my teammates always threaten to kick me. regardless, I think at the very core of it, Pyro melee weps doesn't really matter anyway since a good player knows where the ammo packs are, and there is usually a lvl3 dispenser around.

i think the upgrades in burn time would be better invested in uber canteens

applejackforever [2013-09-09 15:00:39 +0000 UTC]
By the way, before anyone mentions it.
Third degree is not good for removing multiple medics.
the damage does NOT kill them immediately, they will just pop uber.
This also wouldnt work without a crit canteen so if you do it you face an angry ubered giant without mercy without having an uber canteen since you had to use a crit canteen. You die. for nothing.
If you see that there are no spies on the wave you can probably use the axtinguisher. But ONLY on this one wave.

i would take the homewrecker over the neon anihilator, it deals with sappers a lot easier, and the damage is definetly lower than from the phlog, and the support pyro shouldnt try to meele in the first place. BUT against steel gauntlets i would probably take it.

what I'd like to know is what about the secondary weapon? do I take a flare gun or a manmelter?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
applejackforever In reply to MonsterMan25 [2013-12-07 09:35:01 +0000 UTC]
take the flaregun. if you have the push upgrades on stock and the damage on phlog, this lets you deal some dmg in waves where yyou cant run in and burn things. and against giant heavies it is your only source of damage. having crits on every hit there is definetly not a bad thing.
there are also not pyros on every mission, so the manmelter is kinda pointless.
the flare gun is also a nice weapon against snipers
(btw firing speed and reload speed upgrades on the flaregun is the exact same thing, and it also stacks)

ol strict told me the best is the Scorch Shot, pushback and explodes to ignite multiple bots, so I'll go with that, with my phlog and the neon

applejackforever In reply to MonsterMan25 [2013-12-07 11:47:12 +0000 UTC]
theres not really a rule to that, some say the pushback is to weak to be of use, some love it.
thats more a matter of preferance and personally i like to deal at least some damage to the big heavies.
and really, if you dont use it to bash steel gauntlets (which i still think isnt a good idea) the homewrecker is a better choice since it removes sappers in one hit

DearMrUnicorn In reply to applejackforever [2013-09-09 14:33:09 +0000 UTC]
Why is the homewrecker better at dealing with sappers? they have equal stats towards the removal? only diffrence would be that Neon also gives 100% crit to milked/pissed/wet robots.
The support pyro should melee? as an example, do you remember the wave of 100 spies in mecha? the pyro should make a bonfire next to the sentry while helping protecting the engi. while it at the same time will be able to push the bomb to either the pit behind them or just back to spawn useing 1 spy/support scout?
but its true that a pyro shouldent melee if it have the chance of useing his flamethrower!

applejackforever In reply to DearMrUnicorn [2013-09-09 14:42:10 +0000 UTC]
i said the support pyro should NOT meele. also the homewrecker destroys sapper in one hit instead of two
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DearMrUnicorn In reply to applejackforever [2013-09-09 14:45:30 +0000 UTC]
A support pyro should still camp the sentry/dispenser and keep the bomb in the spawn for as long as he can useing the airblast his standart flamethrower got, thats why Airblast Force is the first upgrade to get maxed out and then ammo.
I understod the melee part as he shouldent use his neon to remove dispensers, but I think what you ment was he shouldent go leeroooy on the robots, if thats the case I agree with you, that would give him a kick from my side.
Dident they change that about the homewrecker? im pretty sure, last time I used it I had to do a 2x hit to remove the sapper?

applejackforever In reply to DearMrUnicorn [2013-09-09 14:48:05 +0000 UTC]
well i played it 12 minutes ago, so i guess they changed it XD.
it gives +100% building damage and sappers count as buildings.
thats why my record in destroying them is about 30 as pyro.

The phlog is without a doubt a very powerful weapon to use for the Pyro. However, it was recently nerfed, so its less useful now. But its still very useful to take down tanks and used for it by skilled teams.
