Description
And page 51!, mistakes commited by the characters all over the page, Charlie shouldn't be trying to listen like that, Jessi should have considered the possibility that whoever was right at the door was sticking their ear to it, and god dammit Christine, you're supposed to keep Charlie's identity as secret, at least for now. That's one important detail, in a single day, two new girls found out about Charlie, but Jessi isn't that directly connected to her, how is she going to react? And more importantly, will they be able to keep things quiet? Two people in just a couple hours isn't a good sign if they're trying to stay under the radar.
Christine I always planned as kind of a motherly character, in behaviour I mean, Charlie's personality I think hasn't been quite shown yet, as the whole ordeal with her transformation is kind of overwhelming still, resulting in her just being worried and stressed since the comic started. Valentina is much more developed in that regard, her being noisy, immature and imposing, curses often and doesn't always know when to shut up.
Now comes Jessi, who in the only three pages where you've seen her she acts more mature, just someone focusing on their business, what's going to happen with her though? How is she going to react? Mmmm... >:3

They are doing a pretty poor job hiding it though, both Christine and Jessica found out the same day.

Noooo. I was looking forward to more comics. But good job on these comics, they are very interesting and very foreshadowing. :3

First of all I want to say that when it comes to writing tg comic stories, you're hands down the best artist on the entire web, and I've been searching for tg comics for a long time. You're very good at subverting some of the long standing tropes in such comics.
However... 30+ images for other commissions for other people, including mini-comics in between doing one or two of these? I'm interested in the comic, but it's already shaping out to be at least twice as long as you anticipated. So if its 200+ yet pages to complete, then at 2-3 pages every 3 months, it will take... 17-25 years to complete.
I was a long time follower of The Wotch and watched it turn into a never-finished comic that never went anywhere in the end. I'm sorry Mentalcrash, but I don't think it'll ever be 'Summer Yet' at the current rate. I was a fan of Mirrors Cycle, you kept updating on it. But the long pauses on this one honestly smells like a burn-out... are you sure you know where to take this? If you can do so many dozens of commissions... why the long pauses on this comic?
Can we commission updates? And if we did, would you even be able to deliver? (:\/)
From a long time fan.

Thanks :> It's nice to know people enjoy these since I really wanted to make stories that'd feel personal, with characters that feel like the have some personality instead of simply being there to be transformed.
The updates have been a problem for me for a long time, patreon rewards are something I consider mandatory since these people are pretty much paying my bills, same with commissions, I don't have another job and I don't live with my parents anymore, so I really gotta make sure to draw commissions and rewards.
By now I wish I'd have set less patreon rewards since these tend to drain quite a lot of time, but I don't think it'd be right to tell these people to just go away.
My main problem I think it's simply that I spend so much time polishing my drawings, my latest picture is an example of something I can get done very quickly while still make it look good, and it's probably the route I should follow, often I find myself looking at comics I've spent days working on and thinking they could look a lot better.
There are several things I need to change, beginning with my stupid worries about fixing, refixing a rerefixing stuff on each comic page, which makes the whole process so damn slow.
The broader script on the comic, with all the important events, has been planned for a long time now, the pauses are seriously simply because I give priority to the stuff people have already paid for.
As for the total length of the comic, that's actually something I can't tell for sure, I'm planning on dividing each chapter in around 30 to 40 pages, and and focus the first half on the change itself, then how Charlie manages to go unnoticed and adjust to her new life, then the trouble that'd come from such new life, and then finally being able to move past those problems as well.
As for commissioning updates... Well, yeah, I guess people could, it's something I actually never ever considered until now, I do feel like it'd be kind of unfair on the fans maybe, but I've seen other people doing it... You know, maybe I should ask in a journal if people would be okay with it, it'd mean indeed that there would be updates a lot more often, since I'd also draw "free" pages, and I wouldn't have to worry about bills if I could work more on IISY, my problem with it is that I feel like it'd be like taking advantage of the fans, mmm... What do you think about that?

That was a very generous response. I will always respect your integrity as an artist. These comics, whether they're finished, or not, are yours to make. The decision between quality or story, what you want it to look like, vs how good you can make it and what matters to you, is entirely decisions I don't want anyone but you to make.
I can only, as a fan (of many webcomics, most of which just grinded to a halt), tell you the fears I have.
The only advice I really have is regular updates are more important than completed segments. An update coming out the first of the month, is better than 2-4 pages coming out every three months. There is no discussion of this with me. The best comics stick to regular schedules.
I hope you understand though that when you say we're in the first of three story arcs, and you've been writing this comic for years now (longer than Mirrors Cycle). That's a little bit worrying. To me.
The art is better, the characters talk... but I'm significantly less excited about it, simple because so little is coming out. At least with Mirrors Cycle you had a fun guessing game going on with the background details. :3
Coming from The Wotch, the main author did in fact start to commission updates, or at least do donation drives. That went... no where... really. She got money, and... we got some art, still pictures, a few updates now and then, months of silence, lots of journals apologizing again, and again. The comic had been getting stale for a long time. The original plot line of a magical girl against an evil overlord and occasional tf/tg shenanigans, had long since been abandoned for story arc after story arc of purely tf/tg shenanigans, but not advancement towards any real climax of the story.
Thankfully the same isn't true of your work. Whenever you make an update your protagonist, or his/her surroundings are pushed forward. Things are moving towards a definite conclusion. This is exciting for us as readers. It's also something I'd support monetarily. Maybe via Patreon, but it'll have to wait until I have an employment again (in between jobs at the moment). When I get a regular income, then putting say 25$/month towards this comics completion is something I'd do. I guess its a bit selfish of me to be upset when I haven't contributed. I was just noticing a pattern. When I have money again I might contribute.
Living conditions are what they are. I've always understood artists having the need to take breaks, or even just stopping completely because life is shitty sometimes. If you stop, you're not breaking my heart. I get it. And in your case it seems you need money to survive, and you won't see me judging you for doing whatever smutty commissions you get for money. That's just the way of things. This is your free time, your art, and I'm just one other fan out there craving more of a particular thing you're doing.
If you were putting out proposals for commissioning of updates, that would be very interesting to me. I might squirrel away money for that. I'm assuming this is above and beyond your Patreon.
However the possibility of commissioning updates come with responsibility. You've said on your journal you have a backlog of updates to IISY you owe people donating on Patreon already.. that's not good. If people were to commission you for updates, and that just got tossed on an ever growing backlog, without the story advancing any faster... You might still get donations. The Wotch did. There were a lot of people supporting it years after what had been Monday/Wednesday/Friday updates (on time), had turned into monthly, and then bimonthly updates. All I'm saying is in that case, I wouldn't donate.
It might be important to ask your Patreon supporters what they're donating to you for, and what would benefit you. Would they rather have more IISY, do they want the commission rewards?
Thank you again for your work Mentalcrash. No matter how much, or little work circumstances and your own energy allows you to create, for at least breaking the mold of tg fiction and making long webcomics that weren't about bimbos... you'll always be my favorite tg comic writer.

A guaranteed single page wouldn't change things much though, some pages have 3 or 4 panels that serve only to show a character moving from one place to another.
Mirror's Cycle was made in a format that made it super easy to update, having the single pov, same background, same perspective and each page was a single panel, if you were to compare it to IISY the fairest thing to do would be to count the total amount of panels IISY has so far, and that'd still not come close since IISY always has different backgrounds, has more characters and I also have to make sure to take care of other things, back when I made IISY it was just some studies I had to take care of.
I really wouldn't like to give the feeling that I'm taking advantage of people, but taking these as commissions would indeed mean more of a motivation, simply because I'd have less stuff on my agenda. I'd still do commissions but it'd be as simple as taking less of them and give IISY updates priority, as if I'm close to the deadline while working on a commission I'd draw the update first.
I don't know if such situation would make me change as a person though, what you say about The Wotch sounds to me like the author simply lost passion and/or inspiration, I do wanna draw my comic though, see it develop and end, since I've had it planned for years now, but living exclusive off drawings mean I HAVE to be constantly working like any other job.
If I were to ask for money for each update I guess Patreon would make things easier and more transparent and the website is quite easy to use, it does suck that patreon takes a percentage, but transparency would be the most important thing if I were to use that system. A drawback with it though is that the amount displayed as backers doesn't necessarely matches the amount that ends up being sent, since a patron can either have their account balance on 0 or simply decline the transfer. There are looots of little things I'd need to consider if I were to start asking for donations in exchange of scheduled updates.
My current patreon backers who use their rewards for artwork will most definitely want to keep getting the same type of artwork, one in particular only request AR, so I don't think it's likely. Most people visit my gallery for TG though, and as I typed above I'd give priority to IISY updates over patreon rewards and reduce the number of commissions I take.
Thank you for your words, really, these years since I started drawing TG artwork it's always been super nice being able to see all the support and know people enjoy my work and appreciate both the topic in a broader sense as well as the characters as human beings.

Can't tell for sure, I have a couple of patreon rewards to work on first and then a commission, so it would take a couple weeks at the least.

Not that much, Jessi knew that Valentina had a male friend named Charlie because they went there together a few days back, but now here is this girl who looks a lot like Charlie and is even wearing the same clothes but is clearly female and that other person Jessica doesn't know just called her Charlie.

Hmm so Jessi is the one who tested Charlie's blood. I'm guessing the blood test was to see if Charlie no longer has a YΒ chromosome.
And I wonder how Jessi is going to react over Charlie? She's a scientist so...
