Description Part I |Part II |Part III|Part IV

EDIT 2013: KEEPING THESE THINGS UPDATED IS QUITE A CHORE but I've long since done other studies since 2011

OBVIOUS OBSERVATIONAL STATEMENTS ARE BEING OBVIOUS

This one I kinda did for myself, you know, to keep things neat upstairs :I

whole center of gravity and flying issue bothers me but WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO :'D

It's not only very useful but incredibly interesting too!
Thanks a lot for information!

I did not know that about the "wing type v. movement" very useful! Also that's exactly what I think when I see a winged person standing there with their wings spread straight back, "why don't they fall over!?"

The center of gravity thing is a problem. This is why birds fold their legs up underneath themselves. Also in real physics the center of gravity for anything that flies sub-sonic has to be just about in the center of the chord of the wing. Chord is the distance from the leading edge to the trailing edge measured at the base of the wing.
To prove this watch when a bird is standing. Where its foot touches the ground should be directly underneath the center of its wing.
Something that might make you feel a little better is that human heads are pretty heavy compared to a birds. Ours is about 8% of our mass so it might tip the CG forward a bit. Also males have a higher CG than females because they have smaller pelvises and larger chests.

I like the ways you came up with for supporting the body though, they are clever and should definitely be considered.
Our steering would be such crap!!

I didn't know either until I was researching for this project xD It's probably not a big deal whether or not the humanoid's wings move like bird wings, but I thought it looks kinda dumb when people make the arm move in ways it doesn't normally move.

Center of gravity is a HUGE problem, but this being impossible anatomy, OF COURSE it's a problem xD I figured the shear mass of the chest would help bring the center of gravity closer to the wings. I'm going to leave it up to other people to figure out what they want to do with the legs during flight, but I think it looks silly to have their legs tucked close to their body xD the alternate options are to make the legs shorter/weaker or the butt and lower back muscles longer/stronger

Epic raeg face is epic XD

The right clothing could help a lot, I think (which also reminds me that I have to design some kind of sky camouflage that doesn't look utterly stupid...) The nice thing about winged humanoids is that they have hands C:

HOW DO WE STEER THIS THING?!?

Yes, been thinking about clothing a lot too during this whole process. I figured the easiest solution would be halter tops xD of course that would depend on the wing type as well.

And how high thay fly... the poor guys could freeze their limbs off up there...
