I mean, sniping ain't easy. Took me awhile to get the equations: temperature, weather, ammunition type, altitude, air pressure, wind direction, cross winds, precise range estimation, and the discipline to put rounds thru the same hole. All of that then goes into making good data on previous engagements. Even then, shit, hitting a point target at 1500m becomes a chore even with the M107, which is kinda shit anyway.
Though twilight definitely deserves a "higher education" role, sniping ain't no walk in the park.

Sniping definitely isn't easy, but the thing is the Sniper is more of a sharp shooter than an actual "sniper" sniper -- he's more of a hunter, really. He's relatively close range when he shoots his targets (for a sniper that is), enough that he likely has no need for any calculations and relies more on aim and reflex. The only reason people assume he has such skill is because of his job.
Plus, let's be honest, the ability to estimate a bullet's trajectory is not so impressive when two of your best friends are super scientists. The Medic and the Engineer regularly toy with medicine, technology, and quantum mechanics. Whatever science sniping encompasses is nothing compared to these things.
Really, about the only thing that can be said for the Sniper is that he isn't stupid. Besides that tho, I suspect half the team is smarter than he is -- Engineer, Medic, Spy, and Heavy in particular. Possibly the Pyro given he made an engineering company that made billions in the course of six months -- if nothing else it's a corporate genius.

Yeah, definitely hunter, and all that really needs is discipline.
Heavy too? I mean, he's tough and loaded with common sense... well that's really all you need. Comics definitely make him smarter than the "meet the" series.

Well, if Poker Night is to be believed, the Heavy has a PhD in Russian Literature which I imagine includes a great deal of history, authors, and other important figures, so he's basically a scholar even if it doesn't show. Supposedly in the russian version of the game he speaks in a cultured, erudite manner, though I cannot confirm if this is true.
As for discipline, only the Scout and the Pyro can be said to lack that. Even the Soldier has discipline - even if it is a twisted and distorted version of it.

I watched 5min of poker night quotes just to hear that... cool! And that's interesting, makes me think if the Russians have a totally different view of our beloved heavy. I'm going to ask my Russian friend now.
Soldier has the best sort of discipline. Killing discipline. Brutal, effective, and ask no questions until after.

But then he forgets what he was going to ask. AMERICA!
The Soldier has a sort of pseudo-military style discipline. He can endure hours of torture (and might even insist on being tortured just so he can endure it and prove how disciplined he is), once he makes a plan he sticks to it (no matter how insane), and he seems to be as good as his word. Say what you will about the Soldier, he's tough stuff.

I agree. Your Twilight as the Medic is my favorite. Not just in personality but her design. I find her with the sweater vest, glasses and the way her hair is quite adorable.

In the end, it's more or less fans deciding which character traits they wanted to put more focus on.
For example, I put more emphasis on Twilight's intelligence, her magical powers, and her savvy with more scientific principals than I do Applejack's southernisms or Fluttershy's kindly nature. Of course, some people love Applejack's southernisms, or Fluttershy's kindness, and these are the things they would rather focus on.
