Description
Another experiment involving little bits and pieces. You have Cherry, Black Walnut, Hophornbeam, Apple and spalted Beech. Not very delicate but I learned a lot about how to interface different woods. I really like the look of the beech but unfortunately I only have a small limb to work with.Related content

Fascinating. It looks like there was some tear-out that was not resolved in the piece next to the walnut on the same level though.

Yeah, that's the hornbeam. It's tough to work with to say the least! I could probably clean it out with a lot of time and elbow grease but I've got bigger fish to fry

I am really happy with the spalted Beech though. I will treat what little I have like a burl or an exotic. It literally is just a branch that I have let season for many years. I just got lucky that it became spalted. There is a full sized Beech that has been down for a while that may have spalting. I just need to find some time to rip it up and see what hides beneath the bark.

The weather here has been crazy lately. We don't get tornados but the wind has been wiping out trees right, left and center. I can't keep up with the clean-up. I swear that every time we have 90 degree+ weather it is followed by extreme wind, rain, hail and general mayhem. Other localities will be without power for quite some time.

Meh, the finish could use some work but I did find some interesting interfaces between the pieces. All of this experimentation will lead up to some nice inlays hopefully. I am happy with some of the small diameter pieces of wood and how they add to the ornamentation.
