"No.... no no no, this can't be true..." You shrugged your head at him. Sebastian's eyes watched you painfully break before your ears. And he, too, was breaking.
His smile didn't falter. It hurt you even more that this man, denied the gates of heaven, kept a smile when he was so close to death, at the drop of a feather, he could be gone.
You grabbed his waistcoat, "Never let go of me, Sebastian. I'll die instead of you. Please, breach the contract, and just... take my soul, run off, and never come back, please."
You nuzzled your head deep into his chest, as he placed his weary hand on your head. He leant his head back in fear and anticipation. He was becoming even more human as the seconds went by. No, that was silly to say.
"I...I just wish... we could be together. It would have been better if you never heard of my soul. Then, you wouldn't have to put up with me ending your eternal life." You apologized, raising a hand to wipe your tears. Sebastian looked down at you, taking your chin in his hand.
"Listen to me, (y/n). This might or might not be taken seriously by you, but I would have rather known you, and be dead by tomorrow morning, than not know of you and your soul." He stared straight into your eyes. You stared back at him, and slowly, became more accepting.
You licked your lips in anticipation of when you'd be interrupted. The clunk of the doors opening. The look on the face where you knew you were destined to perish. Then, it came to you. A new lease of life. A new reason to live, happily ever after, with Sebastian.
You gripped his hands, "Let's start up a plan." You gripped them tighter. Sebastian's eyes shifted to stare straight into yours.
"No." Sebastian responded bluntly.
"But we can defeat them if we try hard enough! Destroy this malevolent group, and live happily..." You gripped both of your hands with his in the middle, "We can do this!"
Sebastian started chuckling, "This is the reason why I fell in love with you, a human. Even with little to no hope, you create false hope to comfort yourselves from the true pain of death. The fact that humans are so afraid of death really baffles me, because that is the reason they were born. To live, and eventually, die. Even with a rope as thin as a spiders thread on offer when you're waist deep in the bottomless pit of hell, you will grab it."
You stared at him blankly, "I know, I know. But, we do have a chance, as you are evil too, and they are evil. Don't you know anything?"
He gripped both of your cheeks with the palms of his hands suddenly. He almost whispered, not daring to even shout, "We have no hope. From the start, we had no hope." He explained, "The villains have won. There is nothing we can do."
You shook a little again, "There isn't anything we can do?" You whispered, scared. Sebastian's solemn and serious face fixed on you with obvious sadness in his dead, crimson eyes, abundant of a soul.
"No." He croaked painfully. He stood up, holding a hand out for you, "But... I will help you. I will do my best to keep you alive. I've been alive far, far longer than most humans. You should be blessed with the gifts of growing old."
"I'm not growing old without you, Sebastian." You replied, "We both die, or we both live."
"How could we possibly grow old together, when I will not age a single day in my whole lifetime. I'm not sure if I was even born. While I live on healthily, you will get riddled with problems with family, problems with your health, until your mortal heart can't take it anymore. It will give up, denying you the right to live, against your own will. You cannot do anything to stop it. That, is why I pity humans to a certain extent." Sebastian explained with a pessimistic look in his eyes, coloured like freshly spilled blood, bright on the white snow of the Arctic.
"But heaven and hell are real! Is death really that scary?" You asked Sebastian with a curious gaze in your eyes. You were out of it.
"Yes. It is incomprehensible how you can live on after death. Your physical body being in a different form almost, either punished by the fiery pits of death, punished by the monotonous wishes granted by heaven, and the nothingness of purgatory is something I would not wish on anyone." Sebastian suddenly gripped your hands, "I plead to you, please do live on. Do not waste your simple life on a being like me who has outstayed his welcome on this Earth."
His grip tightened on your hand. You had so much intense feelings, kept in a glass bottle that could shatter at any given moment. The cork holding in this feelings was originally glued in tightly, but now, a simple nudge could send it's contents spilling out, for the world to see. You didn't understand why someone who had started out so evil - so malevolent, a man who'd fight an army solely for the hidden apparition of a soul deep within you. Not with any care in the world, if he felt like it endangered him, he'd surely put you at stake.
Now, the tables had turned. It was starting to freak you out, how you; a measly human girl whom was the indirect target of demons - could turn someone who could wipe out Europe with a click of his fingers, into a person who cared about a measly life form like you.
Sebastian stood watching your thoughts zip past each other as fast as an hero approaching his enemy for revenge. He could almost see the thoughts mapped out in one colossal web as you struggled to wrap your mind around everything. The stone floor had driven you slightly insane due to the fact it was almost impossible to sleep on it, so you had no sleep at all. His hand still gripped your hand with intense emotion, his nails almost digging into your skin as he struggled to find a source of his feelings. Love was incomprehensible to him. He had no motivation, so why was he here, giving his life for a mortal who's life would be over in the blink of an eye if he was given his once guaranteed 'gift' of eternal life?
He found his motivation, as he quickly scanned his thoughts, something a mere human would probably spend half of their lifetime thinking of. Of course, this was the bare human, the raw woman, the dejected mistress. But, his ruler, the sovereign of his heart. His heart was raw, bare, and miserable, all those years he'd been alive before. But someone who managed to drag him into so much drama, someone who twisted the contract, someone who unwilling trapped him - he loved her. And, it had taken a long time for him to figure out that when he was denying it, it was only making it grow even more.
He was lame, left a feeble butler for her, a slave to her every thought.
The both of them were wrapped up in intense thought. The pair, now embracing each other tightly, embroiled so deeply in the deepest corners of their brains, dying for an answer. Sebastian comfortingly started to pet you. Yet again, the both of you were clueless as to why you were standing up.
You had no idea of how long you'd be in here, or when you would be interrupted. All you wanted to do was to rewind the clocks. In all truth you'd missed the days where you'd wake up to see his eyes staring back at you, always lost in thought, thinking about you. The days where he'd watch you go to sleep while keeping you comfortable, and safe in his arms. The funny holidays where you'd teach Sebastian a little more about humans. The public outing days where people would envy you two. It was all over.
You were stuck. What would be left of you if you let Sebastian devour your soul? You were definitely willing to break the bounds of the contract as to allow this. You'd have to be cultivated differently, which doing in the next few hours would not be very convenient.
"Say... Sebastian, how long will we be in here?" You asked curiously as you looked up to him.
"I have no idea, my lady, but I'd say we have around half an hour to speak. This organization is very speedy with their preparations." Sebastian explained. He was gently trying to soothe you. You had started to get a panic attack as the minutes went on, as Sebastian did his best to calm you down. You were both at your worst, and it pained the both of you greatly.
Your stomach suddenly dropped. The gentle drop of noise, the beckoning of your death, was heard. Sebastian's head snapped around to check the man answering the door. The cell was no longer enclosed.
"Woman, follow me." The voice beckoned. The man standing there you couldn't see as tears brimmed your eyes, and they started to hurt. Instantly you wrapped your arms around Sebastian, who was just standing there, with no effort to hug you back. The man sighed deeply, walking in, and with a great force, grabbed your arm, to pull you out.
"No! I'm not leaving him!" You cried, choking in sobs, "You can't do this!"
The man remained silent as you clawed at Sebastian's suit as his hands gripped onto you. He didn't show sadness, he just smiled. Finally, it was just your two hands gripped together, as the man whom had been sent to get you was growing wearier. Your two hands, marking the bond between you.
And eventually, they slipped away too, along with Sebastian's glove that concealed his contract mark. Your bond was broken.
"Any last orders?" Sebastian smiled at you, as you hit the man now holding you over his shoulder. His warm smile only made you more sad.
"It's an order, I order you to be happy!" You shouted, almost screamed, your lungs raw and brittle. Sebastian seemed surprised, but smiled.
"Yes, my lady." was heard from him. And then there was a dreaded silence.
---
The antique grandfather clock. One of the only things retrieved from your old house, now residing in the nursery, which had been ticking for almost a year now, stopped to tick after the final bell had rung for 6pm.
Patricia's fragile figure made her appearance into the room as she stared at it with a confused look, "Hm, I could have sworn it was working a minute ago. I guess I will just have to replace it, if they wouldn't mind."
She made her way out of the room, shutting the door behind her. The empty nursery was enshrouded in darkness as she kept upon her evening routine.
However, since the game player had now paused for some time, the game was still far from over. The Queen was still standing. And even so more unlikely, the king. While their entire side of the chess set had almost gone missing, and checkmate was a definite possibility, there was an immense sense of fighting the rivaling team, and winning.
The black slowly faded back into colour, but you were still in the cell. without Sebastian in there either. A sense of dread washed over you when you heard voices, and you were enveloped in a hug.
"Follow me, you two sick souls." The man ordered. You tried to see who was hugging you, and then your memeries came flooding back to you, in one huge flashback.
It was your parents.
" (y/n), I'm sorry that you're here. Unfortunately, mother and father have done some very bad things and are taking some time out. While we're gone, you'll see alot of things that mummy and daddy tried to protect you from. Please forgive us for doing this, and if you want, forget us. We are deeply sorry to have failed you, darling." Your mother ordered, getting up and leaving you. She walked out of the door, taking one more look at you, along with your father, before the both of them were shoved out of view, and you lost track of everything. Now, everything was black. Yet, you could still feel. Had Sebastian consumed your soul?
Now, you were able to see your own shadow. Snapping around, there were two doors. Now this wasn't a game - this was someone mocking you.
"There's just two doors. What in the bloody hell does this mean?" You cried out, "Are you a buffoon? A cretin? So much that you couldn't even bother to mark the doors?"
You were greeted with a silence, as a smug grin swept over your face.
"Ah, so this is what they mean by eternal torture. I must obviously be in hell. They must have killed me already, and this is just the devil mocking me. In that case..." Your feet started moving as you spoke, moving towards the left door, "...He won't mind what door I pick."
You smiled towards the enveloping darkness, the click of the door beckoning you inside. And inside, you went.
--
"It has come to my attention that you have been perverting the course of justice in our contract. You have broken many of the rules set by us. Do you understand what you have done?" The man, once again hidden, asked Sebastian.
"Yes, I do understand." Sebastian mockingly replied with a happy tone.
"It has also come to my attention that you did not abide by the contract's golden rule. Tell me, Sebastian, as I may call you, what does love feel like?"
Sebastian just stared at the floor after that, guilt suddenly hitting him with the force of a heavy train.
"Heaven, though forgiving for those whom are mortals, will never give you mercy, you pest." The voice almost cackled.
"Heaven?" Sebastian cracked a smile, "Why would a demon like me dream of such a place? If you believe I am looking for salvation in the heavens, you really must not be a true demon, just a coward." Sebastian insulted. The tension suddenly rose in the air. The voice had the power, but Sebastian had the tongue. It would soon become a fierce battle of conflict, where it was fists vs thoughts.
--
The door clanked behind you. You thought your entire body would go numb, as you succumbed to true death, but there was a man in front of you. A hidden man, but you could make out clothing that looked like a grey tuxedo, and long, grey hair. His green eyes shone through the darkness. The tapping of his fingernails could be heard, although it was unknown on what. The room suddenly burst into light.
It was a georgian room. The interior had a single glass chandelier hanging from the roof, and deep brown mahogany flooring. There were no windows, and the walls were painted a calm teal. There were a few seats, and each with a lovely intricate design imprinted on the fabric, before a desk that matched the flooring. The man could be seen with a smug grin, leaning back in his chair.
"Ahh... so this is the fine little thing that that old Phantomhive butler got his grubby hands on..." The man giggled with a deep, creepy tone.
"Phantomhive?" You asked, confused. The man suddenly broke down in fits and fits of laughter, not containing himself.
"Ehehehe! I haven't had a laugh like that for a few years! That butler certainly taught you well, didn't he? Making me laugh before I charge you" He chuckled again, losing the chuckle a little, "So, (y/n) (l/n), You are technically dead, as you have arrived here in purgatory."
"Purgatory? Aren't I hell bound? Am I not supposed to go to hell?" You asked.
"Well, you see, as in a contract, you were originally hell bound. However, as you have redeemed yourself through several acts, you were promoted to the gates of Purgatory. Those who land at this level of purgatory are often the unbaptized, and sent off to become Grim reapers. This is how we keep our services running, by those who are sent here, are sent to the world where they will be raised again."
"...A second shot at life?" You asked. The man nodded with a slight chuckle.
"Yes, but it is optional. Many do take this route, however. But, you will detest demons after a mere hour in this universe." The man warned. Flashbacks of Sebastian ran though your mind as he mentioned Sebastian as you stood there, almost made of stone.
"No, I can't do it," You shuddered with the thought, "I fell in love with my demon butler, and you act like you know him."
"Oh my, you poor soul." The man sighed almost, shaking his head, "If you refuse these gates you will forever be stuck in the hallway, with all of the other souls, for eternity. No torture, just a blank room."
"Isn't there a way out? Can't I do something? Be a demon? Not die?" You called out, getting emotional.
The man groaned, "Eh... I suppose I can help you, for one laugh."
"A laugh? Eh, well..." You went over to the man to whisper in his ear. The man almost snorted, before a ear ringing scream of laughter rang through your ears.
"Ehehehe! Two laughs in a day!" He almost cried, wiping his eyes, putting his head on the desk to rest himself.
"I suppose there is one way. But when judgement day comes, God will not have an ounce of mercy for your soul." The man said lowly. His voice was rich in seriousness as his green eyes held contact with yours.
"What do you mean by that?" You questioned.
"Do you want to live forever, devoid of any emotion, with the man whom you love?" He asked with a smile.
"I...I-" You gulped the seemingly massive lump in your throat as you grew cold with shock. You'd lose all your feelings, and possibly have to relearn them all again. But, however... Sebastian started off just like you possibly will. Devoid of any feelings, hungry for a soul.
Yet, you didn't want him to starve, but you didn't want him to grieve if you gave your life instead, but life without him would be terrible, but you were technically already dead, and since you were only allowed the option of becoming a grim reaper who is prohibited close contact with a demon, left to be apart from him, or wander in purgatory, where your memories would drive you to a fate worse than hell.
There was no way to win. Either way, you or him would be at an unbearable amount of pain.
"Hurry up. It is hard having one who's soul and being has been stained with the hands and lips of a demon." The man sighed, before admiring his nails with a grin. He suddenly slammed his hands on the table in an abrupt action.
"I know a thing! Since you have made me laugh so much today, more than any mortal has, if you make me laugh one more time, I'll return ye to the human world again."
You sighed. You whispered in his ear again, and the man sniggered before laughing so hard you could possibly imagine the walls tumbling down with the sheer loudness of it.
"Alright, alright. Ye can go now." He ordered, clicking his fingers, and before you knew it, there was three doors. Uncertain what it meant, you just stood back away from them.
Who'd think a man would be so affected by a joke to let me live again, You thought.
"Wait, who are you?" You asked the man. His silver hair just fell in his face and he stifled a giggle, covering his mouth with his bony hand, black fingernails sticking out against his grey skin tone. You felt like you'd seen him before, but not for a long time.
"You can pop by my shop at anytime, lass. A pretty girl like you should make funeral arrangements at the Undertaker's shop." He giggled.
"I...is there any way to get out?" You asked, walking up to a wall, and putting your hand on it, feeling the texture.
The undertaker giggled yet again with his usual giggle, like he was hiding something, "The exit is that way, to your left, or as it was once known, the sinister exit. You'll go back to where you are in the living world, like you have just blacked out. Have fun, and I'll see 'ee when you come to my parlour."
You smiled back at the man. You then caught sight of the book - the very one that had been troubling your household the past few months, in this very room. You shrugged it off.
One last look at the room that you'd not see for the rest of your life, you slipped back into reality in an unnerving amount of seconds.
Your head hurt, and it felt like you'd been beaten. You'd assumed this was part of waking up from purgatory, which was rather disappointing.
You put your hands behind your back and lifted yourself up off of the ground. It almost hurt to lift yourself up, but then the thought broke into your mind again. The man whom you'd be fighting for, the man whom you'd allow to live. You couldn't let him die, you were certain he wouldn't die. You'd live happily ever after with Edmund and himself, to appreciate life's offers.
Eternity was certainly a long time. Many marriages would crack under that pressure, as you'd seen a few marriages that only lasted a few years before the husband murdered the poor woman, or the woman took the man to court to press charges against him, even if she was his properly. Would you last, or would you have to make Sebastian devoid of love again to enjoy his presence? Without a soul, would he even dare to look at you now, as he had nothing to take? He'd taken many things from you - or so you believed. He was your first, and he would be your last. The thought of anything bad happening to him was sickening you as your stomach filled with uncertainty.
Quickly, you rose to your feet. Your dress smelt of dried blood, a metal smell, that put you off of your current situation. There was generally murmuring nearby, as you ran out of the foreign room, a new building. Usually you admired Medieval interior, but now it revolted you. Running nearby to the general murmur, you heard nothing like Sebastian. Concluding that he wasn't in there, you ran into the hallway again, in search of a place with noise. You then heard someone unsheathe a type of sword from a room, and due to the silence of the place, you could hear it's location pretty clearly. Your breath hitched in panic as you rushed towards the source, your body filled with dread.
Your sheer panic caused you to lose sense of where you were going. You ran, and ran, looking around for any sign of possible life. A possible sign for your butler, more like. You looked out for stunning glossy black hair, silky like the feathers of a crow. His porcelain skin - the shade of perfect peach, looking so fragile that you were afraid you'd break him if he fell from tall heights, and his slim, toned, and svelte body. Like he was carved to perfection by the gods themselves, wanting to create a man possible of performing every sport in the world, yet still have a homely feel about them without over masculinity. Then his eyes, what defined him as a person. His red, prominent eyes. It was as if you could use the jewels for your own rings, that was how bright and lovely his eyes were. The very pinnacle of his demonic existence, the definition of him. The definition of Sebastian.
And that's when you truly got it. The true motivation to save your sacred butler, while far from heaven, he was yours. And that's when your feet started moving in the right direction, towards the source of his voice. The general low hum of voices grew louder as you got nearer. Until you got inside.
That was when all voices stopped. Four heads turned around, one of them being the man you loved. His face was red with blood, his suit stained.
"Oh my, my mistress, I won't allow you to see me in this attire. I'm unfit to be a butler." Sebastian smiled at you. His eyes suddenly widened as they connected with yours. The three men in front of him exchanged concerned glances.
Sebastian's eyes softened, as he looked at your straight in the eyes as you slowly walked over to him. He smiled compassionately.
"Miss, your order has come true."
And then, the man fell backwards, injured from an unknown source, as your smile fell. He just predicted his own death, and there it just happened. The man you'd built memories with, gone. You looked up at the figures.
"What have you got to do with this?" You cried, tears brimming your eyes, as it came to your attention that Sebastian was gone.
"We are just following orders, madame." It was as if they never realized that you were supposed to be dead. Like they were being controlled. And that's when it came to you that you had to take matters into your own hands. At that point, that was where you saw red. You had the perfect opportunity to wreak havoc on those who wronged you and your household, even if it cost you your life.
You screamed with a very high pitch, smashing the ground with your hands onto a crack in the ground. Instantly, the weak floor of marble shattered. The stairs started to tumble down, as you hopped on your toes to go up the crumbling stairs and onto the second floor, when you slipped. Your foot tumbled backwards, along with your body, as a look of fright came about your face. You hit the floor with a thud, scrambling to get out, as the castle was like a maze. Following the end route out, you made it out just in time, as you watched the building crumble away. Surrounding it was forests, and a dirt track leading out of the castle.
The sun was making it hard to see, but tears started brimming your eyes. You were alone now, truly alone, with no idea where you were, and everyone in the building presumably dead, or escaped. It frustrated you how they most likely got away, and working like a robot, they thought you were dead still.
You sighed deeply down at the floor. Silence filled your ears after the rubble stopped tumbling. It was a sound you had to get used to. Behind you, you heard footsteps. It sounded like an enemy, as you whipped around to see who it was.
It was your saviour yet again. Apparently, he did not die. The man without a doubt had denied some laws of physics. He walked towards you with a straight face. You looked back at him with a straight face also.
Your hands quivered. How the hell had this happened? How the hell was this man alive?
You looked at him from toe to head. He had his usual monotonous face, like he knew something you shouldn't, or weren't allowed to know. Words weren't needed between you two, as the both of you stared at each other deep in the eye.
Sebastian raised his hands to you. His face still was stuck in his straight face.
"My wish has been fulfilled..." You saw the hands slowly making their way towards you. As his hands softly cupped your face, tears rolled down your cheeks. You cupped the man's hands around your cheeks with your own, smiling deeply.
"Thank you." You muttered, smiling, looking up at his face. He just stared back at you, as you looked back at him with the same face.
You looked suspiciously at him, "Hey, what are you playing at?"
Sebastian's face of absolute emotionless turned into a smug grin. He took his hands away from your face and just stood solemnly in front of you, his grin almost dastardly painted on his face. His red eyes scanned you, almost. When he looked at you, he saw your memories spewing out of you. A fully aware woman, you now were. However, you were convinced he was suspicious.
You gripped both sides of his blazer, "What is this about?" You almost screamed, "Who are you?"
There was silence after you inquired about the going on of the recent events. He then got down on one knee, and put a hand to his chest, in his usual pose.
"You wished for me, and I am ever so sorry to have misinformed you. In fact, there is two ways to achieve your wish. Since you were still alive, I had to make myself live as I was still in a binding contract with you. The contract contradicts itself until you say when, milady."
"Then why didn't you say that earlier, when everything was happening in that castle? Why didn't you take my soul like I asked you to?" You asked, curiously.
"Because, I was supposedly close to death," He replied with his smug grin, "You see, you wished for me. In death, I should prevail. The contract does contradict itself. I fear that the organization will reform after some of them have escaped." Sebastian explained,"So, a whole lot of more fighting."
"Sebastian, I don't want there to be more fighting because of me." You asked, looking at the floor.
"What are you implying, (y/n)?" He asked, curiously, eyes starting to widen.
"Take my soul, Sebastian. This is an order... do whatever you want, Sebastian, before you take my soul." You asked, looking at him straight in the eyes.
Sebastian looked shocked, like he'd just been chilled to the bone. Never one to disobey orders, he accepted, "Whatever your wish, milady. What about Edmund?"
Your heart wrenched. Knowing a mortal like you would possibly never see Edmund grow up to see him grown to his full potential, he was most likely born emotionless, like most demons. You wished to stay alive to give him feeling, and emotions, and make him grow up with love, but it would most likely fail.
He would forget you, your darling son, would most likely forget you. You turned to Sebastian, "I want you to take care of him. Make a race of demons who can feel." You ordered, "Remind him of me if you ever feel the need to."
You clenched your sides, wanting to hug your darling child one more time. Considering you knew nowhere about where you were, you left it up to Sebastian. It would most likely take days to arrive at the speculated destination. You looked up at him, remorseful and hurt-stricken. His eyes mirrored your feelings for once, in a dull, crimson red.
He held out a hand for you take his hand into yours, to be united, for a certain amount of time.
Sebastian thought it was most lovely to take you for a walk through a nearby field, thick with roses. Like harsh weather wasn't affecting them, as the skies started to grey, before clearing. Words were a rarity, as the both of you just walked, hand in hand through the field.
Then, it was aboard a gondola down a river. Sebastian was your gondolier, as you just stared bitterly out to the water. The ruffle of the waves made a splashing sound, the river growing wider and wider, as you assumed you were reaching the mouth of the river. It felt wrong to not be speaking at such an emotionally crucial time, but you had no idea what to even say.
The gentle sound of a paddle rowing into the water stopped, as the boat hit land. An island in the middle of the river, perfectly secluded.
Sebastian was about to leave when you stared into the water that was gently flowing the other way.
"Sebastian..." You murmured, "Is this really the end?"
"Some could perceive this as a new beginning. I should say this is a rather calming end." He smiled back towards you, "It is the end of the game now, I have always favoured comparing life to chess. As long as I, the King does not die, the game will go on. However, if my most useful piece in the game, the Queen, shall disappear, then I will fight my battle with the empire and legacy of my Queen with me, forever, until the game ends."
The remark was simply beautiful, and nothing less expected from him. You raised your hands to your cheeks again, struggling to contain the emotion pouring out of you.
He put a hand to his heart, "I do solely believe that you have made an impact on me." He smiled, voice shaking a little. It was the first time you'd seen this man in such a way, so emotionally vulnerable, it was actually unnerving, "I am glad that in such a short span of my demon life, I met a human like you."
You got up as Sebastian did, the both of you walking onto the island in unison. The island was full of temperate life, a few shrubs and a tree on the relatively small island. Sebastian thought it was good to wait in the middle, where he stopped you.
You looked up at the man yet again. This moment was simple, yet so meaningful. All you wanted to do was smash yourself to him, to create an embrace, but it would be most uncalled for.
"So, this... this is the end, isn't it?" You obviously remarked.
Sebastian nodded, "Yes. Sadly, it is near the end for the both of us."
"But, why you?" You asked, looking at him confused.
"I..." His voice shook, "I've fought for many thousands of years, to meet a human like you. And after meeting you, in a life that has been nothing but melancholic, I am... lost for words. And while you humans take a mere quarter of your life to do so, us demons, we do not find someone like this easily."
"But why... why me? A mortal?" You asked, crystal tears dropping down your cheeks, "Can't you love a demon? Your love would be easier..."
Sebastian wrapped his arms around you, gripping you in a tight hug, "I loved you for you. A mortal or not, I slowly fell in love with you." His arms glided up to your cheeks, rubbing away the tears with his thumbs, "And I would not have imagined, or have my life another way. I can say with the whole of my heart, I love you, (y/n)."
"I love you too, Sebastian... If love was a person, it would be you. I want to spend the rest of my life left looking into your eyes, because you are where I belong." You ordered, resting your hands on his. Your contracts lined up, as Sebastian's hand tightly gripped yours. A hand that was supposed to be so cold, and lifeless, was teeming with emotions. He smiled with pure love as he looked into your eyes.
"(y/n)," He struggled to contain his emotions, "It's time. I will never forget you. No matter what happens to me, even in death, I will be with you forever." His lips edged towards yours, as he shook. Your hands broke apart, to embrace each other. He really didn't want to let go with you.
And then, hesitation could not contain itself anymore. Your lips collided as your eyes closed, as sensations flooded your body. There wasn't a description of what was happening, just an intense exchange of emotions as you intook each other's scent, as you gripped Sebastian around the neck, and he had his arms held behind your back to draw you in closer. Sebastian's image flashed through your mind, as your memories whizzed past your eyes like streaks of light. And yet, that one sentence just rang in your mind. Slowly fading out, his voice losing it's volume, it's texture.
Because you see, my Lady, I am simply one hell of a butler.
Then, thoughts stopped altogether, a single tear rolling down your right cheek. You were at peace finally, after a long and hellish journey. He was the last thing you saw, the last thing you heard, your last thought. Your arms grew limp, and your body stopped move.
At that moment, a tear, full of raw emotion, rolled down Sebastian's left cheek. He broke apart from you, staring down at your body, limp and lifeless. His eyes fractionally grew larger, as the man, who'd been so emotionless, so stoic, strong, fell to his knees, clutching your body in his arms, as his emotions ran wild.
She was the woman, who managed to turn a beast, into an divine being. He could not simply let his emotions bottle up, as he knelt while clutching your lifeless body.
For the eternity that he would be alive, your memory would be forever imprinted on his mind. Always there, never to go away. After all, wasn't it in both of your wishes to be remembered?
--
A soft tone of jazz filled the air. The clock was ticking to approximately 10:30 in the morning, and the calender clearly telling that it was 1923 in a cursive font. Sebastian was busy working in the library, sorting out the books, in the same manor that you had shared with him decades ago.
Even after a few decades, you were still the thing on his mind most of the day. It was distracting sometimes, but Sebastian felt blessed to have your image ring in his mind. Although, he desperately wanted to hold you once more.
"Father," A voice rang from the sitting room. There, in the doorway, stood a young man. His skin was pale and clear, his eyes a deep crimson red, like the stains of blood, and his hair was thick black hair sorted into a messy short hairstyle, similar to Sebastian's, all like his father. And yet, he had his mother's smile.
"Yes, Edmund?" Sebastian replied to his son's calling.
Edmund appeared in the doorway, with a serious face. "Father, please do not be angry at me..." He asked, "For I have followed in your footsteps."
"Hm? What do you mean by that?" He asked.
"I... I have fallen in love with a human." His son replied.
Sebastian looked at his son blankly, before smiling, and chuckling a little. He walked up to his son, his face thick with emotion that was running back to him. "Go for it, Edmund. I trust you to not make any contracts with higher up forms. Try and live your life to the full with this woman. Your mother and I would be very proud of you."
Edmund's smile grew wider at the mention of his mother, as he wiped his eyes as the dewdrops of tears formed, "Thank you father."
The young adult quickly rushed out of the doorway, as Sebastian watched him with a smile.
He dearly hoped that their love wouldn't be as tragic as his. He looked out the doorway with a nostalgic smile, Love sure was a wonderful thing.

Well done writer-chan!!! Your stories intrigued me the most and the ending made me cry... No matter how many times I've read this, I will still have a mental breakdown... I too have experienced depression, but after reading your story, I felt much better because I've always bottled up my feelings... Kudos to you... Love your stories and keep up the good work!!! T_T

Don't cry writer-chan. I too, am rejected by many guys. Usually due to the sheer fact I'm apparently "Too much to deal with." BS! That's how I feel. Guys are so stupid, either pressuring you into a relationship, or rejecting you. I get your depression, I'm currently getting F's in Science and Math, mostly because I don't have the will to do anything anymore because my life is such the same routine everyday, I create trouble to change it. Lots of trouble, can you blame me? My parents are overprotective, and won't let me go to the park even by myself, and I'm 14! Ridiculous! And they don't want me on any online games or things like Facebook, or let alone DA. Not happening. They don't want me to have any boyfriends till I'm 18. NUPE. And at the pit of it all, I can't go anywhere. I'm a prisoner of this household and I've wasted away 14 years of my life rotting in this stupid house. At least you can go places and you don't feel like you're on the verge of insanity, you know what's kept me from that? Netflix. It's pathetic.

Thank you for the support! Things may be dark now, but I assure you that even now when you are feeling really bad, things do get better! It might not come instantly, but wait for it! ^o^
Your parents do sound very very strict, but try to move out as soon as you can if you feel oppressed. I'm leaving for German University within the next 3-4 years since I don't want to stay at home too long. Just hope for the best so that you can escape if you feel pressured ^^ Netflix is a great thing, and I'm going to say just don't give up if you're feeling sad or anything! I was bullied terribly in year 7/6th grade, and now 3 years later those bullies are now friends with me and I'm no longer outcasted. Things do get better! ^^
What did you think of the chapter? ^^

It was awesome! I had to admit at the beginning and when those bad things were happening, I was like "NUUUUU."(ノ*゚ー゚)ノ *Flips table* You said you planned on making a 21st chapter, is that true or is this one the last? I stayed up til 5:00 in the morning rereading your stories! They rock! O(≧∇≦)O

Thank you! I actually cried myself when trying to write Sebastian crying. Nope, can't happen, my baby can't cry! xD I stayed up until 3am last night writing it, I woke up this morning with the face of death, Thank you so much!
I may actually, it was supposed to be an epilogue, however, would an alternate ending work? I'm confused on what to do. I might leave it for a while, it took a looong time to write this xD

So did I. I feel like I have rocks burried under my eyes. I understand how you feel, I went to bed when the birds started chirping, and the sun was coming up. Hnnnng. ヽ( ´¬`)ノ I CAN'T SLEEP NOW! I ALREADY WOKE UP. WHY CRUEL WORLD. Along with being tired, I'm irritable, and seriously have been wanting to snap people's necks! My Dad treats me like a maid, making me pour coffee, make him dinner, but today I was like, HELL NAH (ノ*゚ー゚)ノ He even makes me wear dresses when his friend's are over and serve them too. FNNNNNNNF.
