Description A very rare sight (atleast for photographs) are weather-born waterfalls, especially for the desert of southern, utah. This small waterfall was formed because of flash flood rain covering the area in which I was hiking.

When I arrived in the area (called Red Cliffs, I come here often) everything was fine. I was hoping that the rain in the distance would cause more than just a couple of inches of water which normally ran through the Red Cliffs in this area, if any water at all. To my surprise, once I crossed the small stream of river with my car, I noticed a bit further up that there was a flash flood brewing. Within minutes, the water was more than 15 feet further up on the road than normal -- causing me to be trapped inside the park for more than 3 hours. During Lightning, thunder, and flash flood rains, I ventured out of my car to this small spot where you only see a tiny waterfall a few times a year. I call this waterfall the Peaceful Flood.

Nice shot but I'm puzzled. I'd have expected a muddy red color to the water.

This is an awesome photo. What I most love about this is your detail in the description. I find that to be the thing that I most miss in deviations. I want to know where the photo was taken or how big it is or...It is great fun to get a caption that answers all of my questions.

It was truly amazing and peaceful to sit under an overhanging cliff out of the rain and watch this small waterfall.

how beautiful!! if you don't mind me asking, what was the shutter speed and f-stop at?

michael-dalberti In reply to iffer1017 [2008-07-17 01:47:35 +0000 UTC]

I did f/11 because there was not much depth needed to the picture, and f/11 is one of the sharpest f-stops, and I believe I had this one at about a second or a half a second.
