Description I feel like I now need to try to explain the properties of mana in my universe since its such an important thing and one of the main focuses of my project. I will be posting the other effects and properties of mana slowly.

I want to start tackling this with one of the stranger properties of mana, strange as mana is.

The Eldritch Anomaly.
A matrix that should not exist, a naturally occurring bi-product created when both magic and technology collide. This phenomenon usually occurs when the a cloud of mana comes in contact with an area filled with electronics, for example: a computer factory that isn't laced with obsidian, or a battalion of soldiers wielding energy weapons. The electronics don't even have to be turned on, mana just doesn't like conductors and circuit boards and electric stuff, it causes mana to become unstable.

Well, time for a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to throw some bolts in an see what happens... I hope we can get something good out of this thing.

Great concept and work,Β I love the 'everyday'ness of it... it makes it believable.

Thank you! I'm always striving to make my work more believable.

This is probably a dumb question lol but what do you mean by everydayness?

Quite interesting. What is the purpose of and Eldritch Anomaly? Once itΒ occurs, what effect will it have on itsΒ surroundings?
Oh, and it looks great, most astonishing!Β

Thank you! I'm really glad you like it!!

The Eldritch Anomaly is the source of a weather pattern in my universe called the Mana Storm, a very dangerous storm to non magical people like you and me. Mana and magic are not supposed to exist in our technological universe and being exposed to something so alien will literally eat us from the inside out. Mana storms occur when large amounts of electronics, say a factory for cell phone parts, comes in contact with a large amount of mana (Mana looks like a cloud of green mist). Eventually the storm will die down and stabilize and whats left where the center of the storm used to be is an Eldritch Anomaly.

As for the effect the anomaly has, it pushes all non-organic or dead matter away from it, which explains why there are giant holes in the floor and ceiling below and above it. And why it floats. Why it does this? Nobody knows...spooky...

For more info about Mana Storms and Eldritch Anomalies I have another piece that gives more illustrations and explains more about the subject:Β michaellimsstuff.deviantart.co…

"non magical people"? Speak for yourself!Β
Sorry, it is my nature to jest!Β

It is very interesting, your concept of mana that is. Not the standard idea it seems. To use it, not merely as an intangible source of energy, but a force to destroy and devour! And by itself, unguided by the hands of wizards, or whoever might wield it in your universe.Β
I rarely see people giving mana a form, at least not anything but an unexplained flash of blue light, or something similar. But giving it a form as mundane as mist, that is interesting!Β

Haha!
People like us can build a resistance to mana, it is not unlike building a resistance to spicy food. You can start by exposing yourself to it for a few seconds (which will hurt...a lot) and over time, with a lot of practice, seconds will turn into minutes, minutes will turn into hours and eventually days. When you get to a certain point of your training, you will be able to start using magic despite not being a magical being. However we can never get to the point where we can survive mana exposure indefinitely. Because of our biology.
On the flip side, magical beings avoid electronics like the plague, touching cell phones, calculators etc. is like touch acid.

So in someways mana is like steroids, it can give you a massive advantage but there will be deadly consequences if you overuse it. And the same thing for magical peoples but reversed.

Oh yea, I am quite tired of the concept of mana in other universes, there's no down side to magic in other universes. "I'm a wizard, and I can do what I want, because magic ... deal with it." HAHA!!

I have another piece of art and a word block describing more about the universe! Please take a look if you have the time --->Β michaellimsstuff.deviantart.co…
