Was it ever used as a prison?

I don't think so. It didn't see as much combat as it was designed to withstand. It's very impressive. Hell, to this day there's no way to get in unless you somehow scale the tall walls. And it has a lot of secrets, many rooms have been blocked off. I don't think they used a georadar or similar device to actually dig deep into the fortress' secrets.
The room depicted in the picture is I think a guard outpost. It's built into the main wall, has a small cellar and I think something which resembles a fireplace.

No, it's in my town. Right outside to be exact. Old Prussian fortress with most structures still standing.

Your so lucky.. we don't have many such things here
Any land or old building gets used usually.. or if not well guarded.. small country easier for tighter control..
I love the idea of urban exploration, and like free running/parkour..

No way I'll believe that. If anyone has castles and such it's England. I'd visit the crap out of stonehenge. Mine is mosquito land, Prussian soldiers were sent here as a way of punishment. I mean there are several interesting fortified structures but not that close by.

Well iv seen loads on mainland Europe in my searches online.. I also love any kind of old abandoned structures taken back by nature.
Stone henge is okay, but the destruction of the site and area makes it much less enjoyable.. it was originally a huge complex of many circles and temples.. they even built the car park over one of the other circles, the wood henge.
Yea we have some nice structures left.. but its all owned by someone who charges you to go, and full of so many people you cant move. Even our woods are busy lol

That's the trouble with fortresses. You can always go around them.

I can imagine a knight walking through this corridor to consult the king about the latest territory to be conquered.

It's quite amazing to just stand high and watch over the whole complex, appreciating the thought behind its defences.

Geez, us men missed out on such sexy times! Imaging the challenge posed to women faced with a man in an armour suit before the zipper was invented. Damn I like to see them work hard to get rewarded....lol!

Lol indeed. Luckily for them it was the 19th century so things have already been made easy for the common... man.
