Description
My new visual style for Windows VistaChanges again in the startmenu, glass, shell, orb, taskbar and more...
I also left a very slight textglow this time
Comes with a standard border padding value of 10, but please feel free to use a higher or lower value.
I highly recommend to disable the menu shadow as well (display properties -> effects).
Please read the instructions in the file. A shell32.dll for the topshellstyle is included.
You will need a patched uxtheme.dll or VistaGlazz: [link]
Comments, critics, suggestions as always welcome

Hope you like it

Gorgeous, gorgeous! Thank you for making this!
I wonder though, does Vista SP2 affect it in any way?

Thanks a lot for the nice comment
SP2 should not effect the vs, you just need different files for patching uxtheme.dll

Ah okay thanks!
By any chance do you have a link for how to do this?
This is my first attempt at trying to change my theme!

Just follow my link to VistaGlazz or google it. It will patch your uxtheme.dll (make sure it is SP2 compatible).
Then copy the visual style to c/windows/resources/themes and doubleclick the msstyle file. You can apply the theme then.

I applied it and it does what all other mssstyles themes did. It put a blue bar with a dark blue start button. All of them are the same.
Am i doing somting wrong? I have the UxTheme patch and i patched my .mssstyles using vista glazz. do i need them patched? plz reply. cause this looks rly good

Hmm, this is very unusual.
VistaGlazz will do the job, there's no need to patch even more. Please make sure you have the folder with the Satin msstyle in c/windows/resources/themes.
Doubleclick the msstyle and apply the style then.
Did you try a restart? This is actually not necessary, but some systems seem to be a bit fractious.
Hope, this helps

well i didnt use the shell32.dll file because since it goes in the system32 folder that means it will apply it for all accounts and this is a family comp.
Yes i tried restarting already. It seems that what im thinking is that i need to use the shell32.dll file but i cant cause its a family comp. so if thats the problem, darn. But what seems to happen is that iv downloaded other themes with the same layout and what happened was the same thing. cept those themes didnt come with a .dll file it came with the normal theme files, just no .theme file.

You don't need the shell32.dll in order to have a visual style running. The modified shell32 is only to display the shellstyle image on top of the window...
Do you have different user accounts on your family pc? Are you admin? Maybe thats the problem

I just tried somthing and what seems to happen is once i click it, a window opens that has a list like
Windows Aero
Windows Vista Basic
repeat
repeat
and i went through all the aero ones and i seem to have clicked one that does the same start button but not the rest of the visual style.

REUPDATE:
I got it to work. Found my problem. It always applied the wrong one cause i first needed to change to the default vista theme and Vista Basic. Then it chose the right one. Then all i needed to do was change the colors. Thanx nao that the theme is applied i rly like it.

Instructions how to use the style are included
You need to patch your system files first, before you can use a visual style. Then copy the theme into your c\windows\resources\themes folder and doubleclick the msstyle file

Hello kristine,
instructions for the visual style are included in the pack.
Do you have Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or without?
In order to use a theme you need to patch some Windows system files. If your Vista is without Service Pack 1, you can do this with VistaGlazz:[link]
If you have Service Pack 1 installed, pls use the patched files in the pack.
Then, simply copy the visual style into your C\Windows\Resources\Themes folder, doubleclick the msstyle file and apply the theme
If you want the shellstyle on top of the windows (like in the screenshot), you need to patch your system32 file as well.
Pls always make a backup of your original files or a restore point & welcome to deviantart

I enabled full control on the themes folder and the uxtheme.dll file. I installed the vistaglazz, let it patch and let it reboot...i copied the satin theme as well as its supporting folders into the themes folder, but when i double click on the satin msstyles, satin is not listed in the themes...aero is sometimes listed in the theme but where do I go from here? what am I missing?

Michel8170 In reply to jensyao [2008-07-23 09:44:45 +0000 UTC]
Hey there,
themes in Vista don't show up with their names in the themes overview... But by clicking the available AERO themes, it should be easy to locate Satin. Simply chose the theme with the greater border padding and the dark scrollbars
Let me know, if this worked

Hey there
Did you rename the old shell32.dll before?
Or can you paste it and the patched shell32 just doesn't show up in the system32 folder?
Greetings, Michael
