SatinΒ² - a small update of my Satin visual style:Removed user picture from startmenu
- Thanks to psycoB for finding the way to do this -
Refined and changed some images in the startmenu, shellstyle, scrollbars and others

Thanks! i got it to work. I love! The only suggestion I might have is to somehow make text more see-able with light desktop backgrounds. Since the text is white, it's very troublesome trying to read the tabs when the background is a light color.

Otherwise one would have the same problem with a dark background

Ah, it would be possible but I don't really like the thin taskbar.
It changes size when you have eg WMP in the taskbar and I'm not sure if the
orb could stay like this, too

It's impressive that you reply to all of the comments made here... i'm afraid i have problem...
As far as i know, i've gained ownership of the original shell32.dll and renamed it to shell32.dll.original but i can't copy the new shell32.dll into the System32 folder...
I also cannot rename shell32.dll.original back to just shell32.dll, so i'm a little stuck until i find a solution... but i can restore my system easily because i use an HP.

Please try to restore your system then. I can also send you the original shell32 in case you need it.
So far, only 2 users from China reported about this problem (so I thought, it might be a problem with the language version) and 2 who use Vista coming with a HP & Dell PC. I'm not sure, if this shell32 is slightly modified and doesn't allow access then...

If I choose Administrators or my username is whatever. I can't take ownership of the shell32.dll, no access it says. And how do you manage usergroups in Vista? If I could manage to add my self to the Trusted Installers group..

Why can you not get it to work?
Pls copy only the folder with the Satin msstyle and the shellstyle into your c/windows/resources/themes folder
Doubleclick the msstyle and in the window that opens, chose the Aero with bigger borders and the dark scrollbars...there you go
For taking ownership of the shell32, pls chose your name not administrator

First of all; very nice theme.
I like the smooth lines compared to the original Aero.
One question though:
How do i get the fadeout effect on the explorer windows? Or is it just for apperance? It looks very cool.

hey Michel, great theme, are u planning a new Satin? ive been using this one for a while now but incase u are planning a new one id like to see the "minimize button" green , the "restore down" yellow n just leave the "close" red...u know kinda like the mac, BUT im only making these suggestions for the colors of the glow on each. Other than that! Awesome!!! keep it up man.

I'm currently not working on a new theme. I did change a few things on Satin again (e.g. window borders, taskbar), but thats far away from a new visual style...
I'm also sorry to tell you that it won't be possible to make the glow in 3 different colors. The min & max button share the same glow image. The buttons themselves can have 3 different colors, but not the glow.

This is the best Visual Style I've seen so far, and it totally deserves the DD! My only critique is that the startmenu is a bit hard to read without hovering over it.

Visibility of the text in the startmenu depends a lot on the wallpaper / background, I know...
It's hard to use a lot of glass and transparency & keep it usable at the same time

Help, I know this probably isnΒ΄t the place to aske for it but i cant get the themes to work on my new PC!!! I have taken ownership and replaced the three files in System 32, placed the folder in Resources but i cant get the themes to work. What am I doing wrong??? I need to look good..... Kemisk

this could be caused by different things....
Did you restart after replacing the files? Did you try VistaGlazz as well?
You have only the folder with the msstyle, the shellstyle folder and eng-us in the themes folder? What happens when you doubleclick the msstyle file?

The shell32 is only for the topshellstyle
Honestly, I have no idea why some pll seem to have a problem with the taskbar...
You run Aero, right? You're not in the basic mode?
