Description Ha Ha! It's "Done"!

Kinda.....sorta.....maybe?

Okay, not really, but this marks the end of major Modeling! Thats something right?

Alright so whats new? and whats different?

--New Stuff

Everything Below the Torso really, pelvis, legs and feet. Nothing too fancy about the legs themselves, I had considered adding thrustors, but decided against it, as I said previously, this thing isn't an Armored Core, so no skating or flying, so I've left it with 4 thruters in total, all mounted in the Torso, 2 at teh front to provide balance and such, kinda like manuvering thrusters and 2 larger ones that have some pitch and yaw to them.

The feet are kinda neat IMO, the front half and the heels pivot independantly AND the heel can slpit to provide more support, I'll admit not much more, but hey its cool okay?

Also added the Smoke Launcher Shoulder Extension, nothing much to repot here, mounted on mini turrets to do what needs to be done, where it needs to be done regardless of the Mech's orientation. Each side has 8 tubes, which in general the top 6 would be loaded with plain smoke grenades, whiel the bottom two are reseverd for special cartidges, or normal smoke if special cartridges aren't needed.

Made a Gun, I'm not 100% sure about it, on one hand it feels a little small, yet on teh other, it wasn't meant to be Big either, I'll prolly mess with it tomorrow to see if I can tweak the proportions a bit. Otherwise I like it, simple, yet still a threat to other Normals and anything smaller, its also got a large Ammo Box,a dn everyone knows the moar bullets you have the more you can shoot!

--Changes :S

Made lots of optimizations, you shouldnt noticed them really, most deleting stuff you can't/never will see, I did remove some details and tweak a bunch of stuff, but again its some womething you'll notice unless you really start studying it and look for it.

I did flip the missile pod on its side, its bit lower than I'd like at the moment I'll admit. Its also more dynamic to open as well, before it'd tilt forward then the cover would simply rotate up, in the direction it just came from, now at least it opens to the side.

I also changed the Torso Guns, before they just looked dumb, now they actually look pretty col and stick out more when deployed

Not much else to say, if I don't make sense its cause I'm pretty tired atm, as soon as this is posted I'm crawling into bed.

As usual, Comments are Welcome and Encouraged.

If you don't yet know what a Normal is, check one of the older WIP pics, it'll have it in the description.

very impressive! I'd personally love to see some textures/shaders on this thing, but wow, you're a super-talented 3D artist! JUST LOOK AT THOSE MISSILES!

Eh, I'm not that great...

As for the lack of Textures, thats mostly to do with that being my downfall, Mapping stuff out I can do, but painting the textures themselves is not something I'm good at.

Also this guy is slightly High Poly, its sitting at just over 21,000 Triangles, the "Standard" for gaming stuff tends to be closer to 10K, depending on platform obviously. So between Normal Maps and simplifing some parts(also changing the cylinders I used, most of them have 12 sides, which is nice for high poly, but it has a LOT of polies) I could get it down then I'd Texture than instead of this.

But we'll see.

I understand. Textures can be difficult. When I used to play around with Maya (before I got 3DS Max, which I never use sadly because I suck at 3D,) my friend would take closeup photos of materials, and we'd load them into the computer and apply them as textures.

But yeah, texture bit aside, your skill lies in level of detail.

very nice. I would like to point out the gun though. Either make it a 2 handed weapon, or give it a stock to balance it out. right now, with the lesser balance of the machine's hands, that thing's gonna drop to the ground. Especially with where the ammo clip is. Also some detailing on the front of the upper legs might be good. right now it looks like they have Hersey's chocolate bar plating.

The Problem is you can't really add a stock when doing a mech like this, its not really mean to achieve a human-like firing posture. Honestly I don't see an issue, Submachineguns have a similar set up, and I don't hear much about them snaping wrists

Legs...eg, I don't want them to seem cluttered, they are a larger area, so I think it works out fairly well.

not so much a stock to go between arm and torso, just some weight behind the hand to balance it. It's a bit bigger than a SMG in proportion.

I'll look into it when I rework the gun a bit.

I said I'd look into it, for the weapon I'm going with more of a Rule of Cool type thing with weapons, cause the future is a wonderous place no?

The hands are too small, I think it has something to do with the wrist being a cylindar joint. Not really a big fan of the square forearms either. And as lord underworld says texture it

REally? I figured the hands might be too big, not too small.

no take a look at your own hands, the palm flairs outward from the wrist

MikeTehFox In reply to RichardBlumenstein [2009-08-19 15:01:03 +0000 UTC]

But I'm not trying to recreate a person here, yes, my hands flare out from the wrist.

but my elbow also happens to have a larger diameter than my wrist does, if I make the Mech's hands have the proportions your suggesting it would look comical if it didn't look so dumb.

Think of it this way, if your wearing a pouffy Winter coat, your hands won't really be flaring out anymore would then?

I understand what your saying, I would just say increase them about 10 to 20%, that and make the wrists bigger/different that or put some type of ball joint in the fingers to spread them apart a little bit more, that might be a bit more effective
