Description This is NOT the official Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue line-up. This is my own version of it. Please read the following journal if you are not familiar with my "ReImagining the Power Rangers" concept : [link]

Season 8 : Lightspeed Rescue 1999-2001

Lightspeed Rescue is the project Billy was working on during the time of Turbo. He was asked by Zordon to develop a way to defend the Earth against powerful enemies without help from a powerful being or ancient powers. When the Power Chamber was destroyed, he lost half of his data and had to start almost from scratch. Even with Trini's and Ashley's help he still had some difficulties. They decided to contact the military forces and informed them of their past actions as Rangers. Impressed by the extensive intel and amazing fighting skills of the trio, allied with Billy's extraordinary ideas, they decided to help them create a way to defend the Earth. The Lightspeed Aquabase was developed in Mariner Bay and future Rangers where trained. Billy with Angela Fairweather's help (as well as a team of scientist) created the arsenal the rangers would use on the field.

When they discovered she was pregnant, Cassie and Adam decided to use the ability the Galacta Beast gave them and they came back to earth. Once back they officiallided their union and Cassie became Mrs Park. Adam tried to contact Tommy to get in touch, but he and Kat where nowhere to be found. He then contacted Ashley who told him about the Lighspeed Rescue project, her job as the Red Ranger, leader of the Lightspeed Ranger and invited him to the Lightspeed Aquabase. Impressed by all the work they did and seeing they still lacked two members to have a team of five rangers, he asked if he could resume his duties as a Power Ranger. Captain Mitchell agreed and extended the offer to Cassie. She refused at first, explaining she was pregnant and said she would join the team later, once the pregnancy over and a nanny hired. Adam was given a Rescue Morpher and became the Green Lighspeed ranger. Since Cassie had refused to join the team, Captain Mitchell decided to enroll his daughter Dana to be a ranger, and Billy started developing a new morpher for Cassie.

The Lightspeed Rescue project is a cross between a military force and a police force. They are trained like professional military officers, but they are independent from the government. They join forces with various departments like the traditional police department for investigations, the fire department for arson crimes caused by monsters and of course hospitals to treat the wounded. They have their own uniform, based on the different army forces but with visible changes.

When Ryan Mitchell (Dana's long lost twin brother) came back and stole the Titanium morpher, he had to be stopped. They tried to reason with him, but Diabolico's teaching were too strong. Captain Mitchell made a second really difficult choice. He asked his own daughter to get the Titanium Morpher back at all costs, even if she had to kill her twin brother. And she did so. Billy decided to use the Titanium Morpher, to be sure it would not be stolen again. Cassie took over the Titanium Morpher later and became a full time member of the team.

What, you got a problem there's no Carter or Joel in this series?

Yeah, the gender ratios often change in my versions.

I'd like to believe that after In Space, Earth started interacting with planets like KO-35 and Aquitar. Ko-35 gave them enhanced space travel (resulting in Terra Venture) and interaction with Aquitar lead to the creation of the Aqua Base under Mariner Bay.

That would make sense in the original universe.

I'm not making a suggestion, I'm trying to have an interesting talk about Power Rangers. Although, I would like to thank you for helping me realize this.

I wasn't implying you where trying to suggest anything to me.

I was honestly saying that your theory would make sense in the original series of power rangers. Nothing more.

I'm torn about this one. I mean it would be great to have more familiar faces around, but I really liked the whole Lightspeed cast, especially Carter. You have some very cool ideas for tying things to previous continuity (which I would love to have seen more of), but I still liked the clean-slate, back to basics vibe of this show. Plus, having so many returning rangers would make it harder to do the annual team-ups. Although it sure would be nice if they tried putting a girl in the 6th ranger spot for a change.

When I change the cast, it's mainly when I don't like the original cast. I only keep the characters I like or the characters I'm neutral towards and I replace the others with either new ones created for the season or simply veteran rangers.

As for the team ups. The only team ups I have are : a few veteran rangers coming back in In Space, Forever Red in Wild Force, Once a Ranger in Operation Overdrive and I have an idea to do a team-up in Lost Galaxy and expand the story a little, but so far it's just that, an idea.

I don't do team ups otherwise.

That's cool. Seems like an awful lot of narrative gymnastics to bring back Adam and Cassie. After all they've been through, I wouldn't mind just letting them enjoy their retirement.

Although having Billy around would be badass. No human in the universe knows more about zord tech than that man. At some point it'd be cool to see him maybe don his old powers again, or rather a recreation of them. He definitely would have the resources and know-how to pull that off. I can just imagine Captain Mitchell introducing the new team to "Dr. Cranston" and thinking "Ooooooo! This is gonna be good!"

What is confusing do you ?

Ralokone In reply to MimicZeThird [2010-07-24 21:27:41 +0000 UTC]

the random gender changes, inexplicable character placements or removals

color changes

overall adaption decay

its like a book adapted into a movie series

first you adapt the first book, overall its faithfull, but the minor changes begin to cascade into larger changes throughout the series until the final work represented fails to resemble the original in any way shape or form

Well this project is based on the idea that things are different, I'm wasn't just making the characters of each season, I was taking my own spin on things. Making things flow a little better (to me the way I've done things the powers are based on on a more logical way and the origins of the powers are more logical as well). I've also got rid of the characters I didn't like and replaced them with characters I like better or characters I invented.

My goal for all this was to do what Power Rangers had not done. They simply took the costumes and appart from changing a few yellow rangers to females and inventing a few rangers after the Zordon era, they mostly kept everything as it was in the japanese version and didn't invent things. Basically, Power Rangers is a rip off and my version took liberties with the original material. Instead of Xeroxing the team, I created teams inspired by the originals but different.

Now, if you don't like my version of the universe, I'm sorry I wasn't able to please you.

Something really should have happened in PR like love, marriage and having a baby, why only we fans include that?

MimicZeThird In reply to knd6 [2009-10-08 01:49:47 +0000 UTC]

Because we have more time to think back about things and we do things the way we want them to be not the way the more profitable and easy for the studios.

Then I would prefer slightly less simple and profitable for them and slightly more romantic for us...
