Description I made an important discovery this week. J.R.R. Tolkien must have had nothing but free time. His inventing several languages should have tipped me off but his maps take a crap-ton of work. I did this map in his style (though my handwriting sucks fantastically). It took me over 5 hours to draw (I did it all in ink so this was basically a one step pic, not counting the photoshopping).

This is Anduris, the campaign world I am creating for my D&D 4th Edition campaign. This is a world where an ancient evil is beginning to stir from it's ancient prison. A world where a great number of "Divine Engines" shape the world and indeed are the main reason it can sustain life. A world of Tech Priests and tinkerers. A world of great benevolence on the one hand and one of great malevolence on the other. It is a massive undertaking for me which makes me very happy I am not GMing SWRPG for the next few weeks.

yeah... cars... neither me or my brother are car guys. Both of us would be looking at the engine, scratching our heads, looking at each other and say, "forget it. Let's go play xbox."

I'm a car guy and my brother is an audio guy. He taught himself audio and I learned automotive working in automotive retail with mechanics as coworkers. I only know the basics of audio and my brother does not know jack about cars.

I like it. It seems like you put a lot of effort in it.
And this I'm telling you now is a friendly advice, since I know you draw great and I love to do maps myself and would like to see more maps of your I'm telling you this:

You might want to either add a legend to what is what either make it clear by different symbol (fortresses, towns...) I know you're doing it for the campaign so the game will say to visit 'The Place' and people will look for it and find it, but wouldn't it be nicer?
And yeah, you need to work on your handwriting a bit. Maybe you should try to imitate some fonts.

I had more advice but I forgot while writing these. But never mind, these are enough. I look forward to your new maps if you plan of doing them.

Thanks.

A legend would be more useful to DA watchers than in the campaign but I did agonize over whether or not to clutter the map with a key. Tolkien's maps don't have any keys either and that was the look I wanted.

Typed fonts would look incongruous but I lack the skill to do lettering. You need a steady hand for it and my lines only look steady when I correct them digitally. If I were to use illustrator to create my own fonts maybe but I would need a lot more practice to do a pleasant looking script.

If I do any more I would probably do a city map of Kharadrin but I don't think I want to draw individual houses.

Yeah, that sucks. I tried doing a city from my book. And it's all good and stuff if I draw only important buildings. But then come the houses .

I did it once before for a 7th Sea campaign but it was a nightmare.

Maybe. I have several hundred pages of character sheets and notes from my old campaigns dumped in a file cabinet.

Hmm... a lot to search through. Should have expected that. Anyways if you ever run into that map don't hesitate to upload it.
