Description
This is another dev thats come abou tas a result of me teaching myself some new stuffI've been playing in 3DSM6 and learning how to do some caustics. I tried to use some blocks in a funky configuration but thats been done sooo many times before that I didn't think I could get away with it. Hence I came up with the idea of a Jurasic Park type trapped bug. I would claim credit for modling the bug but I didn't - its off a freebie mesh site.
Hope you like it

I'm always fascinated by people who can use computer programs for art to such good effect. As has been previously mentioned, melt water might help the overall realism of this, but generally its an excellent concept well executed. In fact, I'm generally impressed with all your gallery, although you'll understand if I don't comment on it all!

Well, you've got yourself a great looking ice-cube
Some waterdrops at the bottom of it would make it mucho more realistic.
Still, nice job!
Dropped in here via insektokutor.

Looks good, but also kind of unfinished.
Maybe you could add some condensation on the ice or nearby it on the floor?
Still pretty impressive, though... Better than I can do in 3D, anyway.
(BTW, I like the 2D element also... That title in black... So simple and so effective. Nice one.)

Thanks
I'm thinking of reusing this to do a finished version - with all the comments and ideas that people have given I think I can take this further

That has become my current background.
It fits in with what I really need. ICE!
The bug in the ice is cool too seeing as I'm seeing too many of them now.

Good job. The ice cube is so real, I think I need to wipe of my screen. It's melting all over it. j/k

very good job with the caustics... there is only one thing that i found that detracts a little from this picture.
The cube is a little too cubic. you'll never see a perfect cube of ice, even out of an ice cube tray. Just deform the mesh of the cube a little bit to make it seem more natural. Other than that, great pic!

I love these kinds of wallpaper.
Very nice idea and execution.
What index of refraction did you use for the ice(1.31)? It looks almost like glass. Perhaps some tiny bubbles inside would make a good effect.
And it must pretty cold as there is absolutely no melted ice around the cube.
Anyway, I think the layout is great, leaving enough space for icons and stuff.
