Slick sculpt. Fantastic detail. I have worked in Sculpey before, but I was wondering how you baked the translucent without burning it? I used the translucent for a dinosaur tongue but used a heat gun. I am interested i using it on a full sculpt however, and I'm not sure how to bake without burning. I saw a piece on Stan Winston School using it, but I'm not sure if it was even baked. I noticed people there were painting right on plasticine so it is possible they didn't bake it. Any way, any info you would want to share would be appreciated.

Thanks man! I bake my Sculpey at really low temperatures (between 225 and 250F) for longer periods of time. All Sculpey dulls out and may yellow a little after baking, but you can keep pretty close to the original color. Using a heat gun can tend to scorch small parts of Sculpey, especially thin areas. Definitely recommend baking in the oven. The guys at Stan Winston have 2 Sculpey demons: Casey Love who bakes and then paints his piece, and also one from Jordu Schell who does most of his paint work before the clay is baked, then tackles the details/gloss after. Both are pretty incredible and informative. Highly recommend checking them out!

Thank you!

I did notice the translucent dulls out a little. The longer lower temp bake seems a good way to avoid burning. I typically don't mind a little burning if I'm painting, but with the transparent the burning is obviously not desirable. On those videos, I've always wanted to view them but I can never get myself to bight the bullet and shell out the cash. Perhaps it's time I did so. I am keen to see the Casey Love video. His airbrushing techniques look pretty cool. I like the layering effect. Thanks again for the tip! It is appreciated

Thanks man! It is Translucent Sculpey 3. It comes in the little 2 oz. blocks. I generally mix two of the little translucent blocks with half of a block of regular pink Super Sculpey to get the color I use for these.
