Description
Edit: Sorry about all the typos and spelling errors. Lern2Proofread *facepalm* But I'm too lazy to redo it so.... yeah, sorry xD~ ~
This tutorial is about the making of:

I'm sorry it's so big too >.< But I wanted to be thorough. I will also answer any questions on it. Also please bear in mind this is aimed more towards beginners and intermediate painters. The idea is to create natural effects in a way that is easy to grasp for those who are just learning. Hopefully this will also familiarise people with features of photoshop that they maybe didn't think to use before.

HOW TO MAKE BRUSHES IN PHOTOSHOP
First open a new image no smaller than 1000x1000 pixels on a transparent background.
Draw in what you want your brush to be. Try to make it as big as possible, since it's better to scale down than up.
Now grab the Lasso tool and select the area around your brush-to-be.
Next got to:
Edit > Define Brush preset...
You will be prompted to name your Brush. Give it a name you can easily recognise.
Now you will be able to select it from your palette. If you wish to permanently save it go to the brush palette and click the arrow on the top right corner and choocse 'Save brushes...'.
NOTE: This saves the SET. So if you ONLY want one brush in that set you will have to edit and remove the other ones currently loaded into the palette. This wont erase them permanently don't worry. You can still reload them from their own file. Just make sure you do NOT overwrite any existing brush sets when you save.
----------------------------------------
Well hope I didn't forget to mention anything haha xD

only one problem with the brush tutorial though
it wouldn't let me "define brush preset" is it just my computer or am I doing something wrong? I think I followed all the steps corectly

That's odd, I don't know of any reason it won't let you do that. What version are you using?
And thanks, I'm glad you found it useful.

AMAZING! However I know you didn't do this but if you were to just create a background without any subjects in it, the horizon line would look good either pretty low or pretty high but not in the middle C;
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MissAisling In reply to alizawren [2010-12-04 18:24:45 +0000 UTC]
I have to say I dont agree. When the horizon line is too low, it creates a lack of depth and overall flat perspective. A high horizon line suggests that the viewer is at a height to the ground, which also distorts perspective.
Think of it as if you are standing looking at the horizon. It will always be closest to the center of your vision.
But I do get where you are coming from, you can move it around a little, but from my experience too much just never looks right.

Hmmph yes I get what you mean and it's true but from what I once learned somewhere, a background shows either a lot about the sky or about the ground
But Idk, half my opinion

I'm glad you found it useful. And honestly, trees are one of the trickiest things to learn to draw naturally. I tried to come up with a simplified way that people who are learning could do, but in the end it's always better to develop your own way of doing it too.

i agree ^^
i can draw them on paper, but i'm still new to digital drawing. if you see my gallery, you'll notice that my drawings on paper are WAY better, but i think that's normal, anyway

When you select the gradient tool, look at the toolbar at the top of the page (undes File Edit etc) There should be a little ijmage of the current gradient. Click on it and you can set the colours and sharpness you want
