This is my very inefficient but doable way of making 3D items.Hope it explains better than the other one. I included more detail and showed pretty much how I go from a 2D plan to a 3D item. It is pretty much self explanatory.
Make faces, move the verrtices(points) around till you get them in position. Cut faces, delete unwanted faces. Mirror, move, cut, create, and on and on.
Hope this helps you to make beautiful items of your own.

Yes, you can import any kind of pic, and even orient them in 3D like, front side back.
