Description
part of my fighting for? series where i depict kids in protest rallies... once again, do they know what they're fighting for?i have to make it clear though that protests here in the philippines are almost always political in nature... its almost always a stab at the current administration... they use issues, be it about a war in a foreign land, price increase, wage increases, heck even the price of pan-de-sal (a bread common in the philippines) to throw mud at the current administration whoever is seated there... and most of the time... these protest rallies get disperesed... rather violently at times...
kids have no place in rallies of this nature... they have no business marching with militants knowing that anytime rubber bullets or tear gas would rain down on them... they are victims of politicking... victims of mud throwing... this should not be.
---

i've covered a LOT of protest rallies... and i mean a LOT! and almost always... these groups bring kids along... probably sons or daughters of members of militant groups... i really dont like this idea... in the first place... why bring these kids? do they know why they're there? do they know what they're fighting for?

As this photo shows, there are few things more eye-catching and adorable than a child. What better way to have your message, whatever it may be, splayed across the news than to have a child like the one you've pictured carrying it? It's done all the time, be it some child carrying a dove at a coference or a child walking down an aisle spreading flowers behind her...it's just a part of life really. There's nothing unnatural about having a child carry your message.
Plus, did it ever occur to you that the parents possibly aren't meaning to use their child as a political tool, but rather wish for their child to grow up around like-minded folks so that the child will grow up to be as politically-minded as possible? Just a thought.

I agree with you, it just shows that those people that are protesting really have a lack of honor. Why would you put your child in danger like that? Or give your child a gun like they did in Somalia? I've seen photos and videos of protestors dragging the dead bodies of americans by their bloody scalp as they march through the street. It just makes me sick that people in this world actually do things like that. Protesting is one thing but an action like that is just sickening.

eh. its crazy how it is back there, I see it on the news everytime my lola is watchin.
Oh well. They dont know, and yeh...from the ideological point of view, it seems that the people who rally should know what they're rallying for.
they really do spray kids with rubber bullets...Thats really horrible. I saw riots on tv, but, not with kids getting sprayed down...
good message here.

I think there's no problem in taking children to a demonstration but I also agree with you - they shoudln't be brought to such a violent demonstration... on the other hand it's somehow their business as there are thousands of childensoldiers dying every year... war seems to be -sadly- children's business as well... horrible things going on there...
Far away from horrible is this photo: I really like it, the expression of the little child, looking like she's hardly able to carry the sign, hiding behind it, is great and meaningful. I love the composition... great shot!

Yeah. I feel bad for my place too. I wish that I could really do something for my family over there. they're suffering with everyone else over there. my grandad has cancer, and me and my mother are trying to put in money to save him. I just can't belive how bad it is over there though. I remember going there, and crying when I came back from my trip.

Sad issue. Be sure to check out the children's everyday walk in the streets of Buenos Aires picking up old papers and cardboard to sell out and get money for their parents. In comparison, that Philippine kid hanging to the ad is getting a lot of a better time than Argentinian indigent children. Although, I definitely think a better place for that kid is school.
I'm not commenting the technical details of the photograph, since I feel it has no relevance compared to the bold critique it is delivering.

I've seen kids in demonstrations, not of proteste, but of joy, and that is also quite dangerous to them, especially if they are drinks and bottles involved, like in the ones I've seen. hack, it is dangerous to anyone. which kind of parents bring them? unconsciouss ones, me thinks.
anyway, congrats on the dd. I had this into my message centre from some time, but onbly know had the time to comment. I'm really fond of it, of your subversion and conscience, but what i love the most about this photo is her eye look.

I've seen kids protesting in the phils, and I thought the same thing. I didn't know they would protest about such petty things (as if pan de sal isn't cheap enough!) - it's quite sad that they barely understand what they're doing, and you're right, the possible dangers involved could get them hurt for a reason they don't understand. Fair enough if they have the mind and heart to believe in what they're protesting, no matter what age they are.
It's quite a huge difference to the people I'm used to being around when I visit my family there.

Congratulations on the DD. This is such a powerful image.
I agree with you. Majority (if not all) of these kids don't really know what they are fighting for, they are there just because their parents are.
There's a saying that not everybody can be pleased but these protesting groups take it to another level. In every minute flaw there is about the present administration, they would march to the streets asking for new leaders, etc. But after a while, they would go rallying again, but this time, it would be to go against what they previously fought for (becuase yet again, they found a flaw).
Instead of going against the government's action, what the country desperately needs is Unity. The country is struggling, and it isn't just because of extreme corruption, it's due to a widely divided society as well. No matter how good the elected leaders are, in the end, it is still the masses, every people of the society like you and me who can either make or break the country.
When will we ever learn? And for God's sake, they should leave the kids alone.
