Description

Born into the wealthy industrialist Shore family Blackthorne Shore is the older brother of Sandra Shore. Blackthorn was a well-educated but restless, brawny youth who chose to be an explorer, archeologist, and adventurer rather than go into the family business like his sister.

During his travels around the world Blackthorne learned of the Inhumanoids, a giant, powerful race of monsters who were said to have ruled over humanity in ages past but were driven underground in ancient times and now largely considered myths.

Blackthorne put in every resource he had in trying to track down the whereabouts of the Inhumanoids believing that if he could free and control them, he would be the most powerful man on earth

Despite coming close to unearthing them a few times Blackthorne continually met with failure. When he and his group were attacked by a tribe during a jungle expedition, he lost his left eye and almost his life in the battle to escape them.

Bitter but undaunted Blackthorne returned home realizing it would be safer to have others take the risks on his behalf and put his energies into running the family business with his sister Sandra. The two eventually co-founded and co-lead the Shore Foundation, a research institute Blackthorne would secretly use to keep his Inhumanoids search going under the guise of legitimate scientific research.

Sandra was the public face of the company while Blackthorne stayed behind the scenes and threw himself into becoming a ruthless businessman often conducting illegal dealings behind his sister’s back in order to gain more wealth, power, and influence in the government as well as the business world.

When the government sponsored team Earth Corps discovered what they thought was a giant bipedal dinosaur encased in an amber monolith in Big Sur National Forest Sandra Shore secured the rights for the unveiling of the find at the Shore Museum.

Blackthorne became invigorated by this discovery thinking the Earth Corps may have found the remains of an Inhumanoid and not a dinosaur. Using ancient texts pointing out the location of a deep underground chamber where another Inhumanoid was supposedly imprisoned Blackthorn personally led an oil drilling team somewhere in Southern California under the guise of exploratory well digging.

Blackthorne ordered the men to drill past where oil should have been located and breached a chamber two miles below the surface setting free the plant based Inhumanoid called Tendrill who smashed his way to the surface and ran off into the night. Blackthorne despite almost getting killed saw this as his plans finally coming together.

Later Sandra hosted the unveiling of the amber monolith introducing the Earth Corps scientists to the public. When the Inhumanoid D’Compose sensed the approach of Tendrill many miles away he freed his head from the monolith and started screaming which caused the people at the museum to panic.

Tendrill arrived shortly and smashed the roof of the museum open to get at D’Compose Sandra stayed behind making sure everyone got out and soon realized the two Inhumanoids were communicating with one another. Jonathan Slattery (Liquidator) of Earth Corps rescued her and prevented D’Compose from touching her.

After getting her to safety Liquidator, Earth Corps, the police, and the US Army drove the Inhumanoids into San Francisco Bay where they vanished beneath the waves. During the battle the Shore Museum was destroyed by a gas main explosion.

When Doctor Bright of the Earth Corps tracked down and explored the chamber Tendrill escaped from Blackthorn and his men trapped him in the chamber and collapsed it on top of him to cover up Blackthorn’s involvement. Doctor Bright survived the cave in and eventually dug his way out of the chamber.

Days later Sandra returned to the Shore Institute and overheard Blackthorne ranting at Senator Masterson over the phone. Blackthorne knew the Earth Corps were the only real threat to his plans and demanded Masterson cut funding to Earth Corps. Sandra was horrified to discover Blackthorn not only knew about the monsters but that he had used Shore Industries to release Tendrill.

Realizing her brother’s insane plan to control the monsters Sandra fled his office escaping Blackthorn’s thugs.

When the Earth Corps funding was cut by Senator Masterson Sandra took over funding the team with the stipulation, she be made a member and have her own exploration suit to which they agreed.

While this was happening Blackthorne used Shore Industries to build him a magnetically powered exploration suit based on stolen Earth Corps suit blueprints with the sole purpose of using it to control Metlar, leader of the Inhumanoids, who was vulnerable to strong electromagnetic fields.

After repairing their headquarters somewhat, building new vehicles and Sandra’s exploration suit Earth Corps once again ventured below the Earth’s Crust where they battled D’Compose until he fled. Sandra held her own in the fight impressing her teammates and they continued onwards deeper into the Earth following D’Compose and Tendrill who managed to free their leader Metlar from his imprisonment.

Unbeknownst to the team and the Inhumanoids Blackthorne had trailed them from the surface using a heavily armored power suit designed to generate tremendous electromagnetic blasts and energy fields. Blackthorne boldly attacked Metlar, D’Compose and Tendrill holding them at bay while he demanded Metlar serve him.

A furious Sandra confronting her brother which distracted Blackthorne from keeping Tendrill and D’Compose at bay who broke his magnetic field and freed Metlar.

Fighting against the three Inhumanoids with Earth Corps and Blackthorne Sandra was captured by D’Compose whose touch mystically mutated her into an evil, giant undead Inhumanoid that became bonded to D’Compose turning her into his mate. After scattering Earth Corps and Blackthorne the four Inhumanoids escaped.

A horrified and remorseful Blackthorne vowed to get revenge on the Inhumanoids for what they had done to his sister but the Earth Corps rescued and cured Sandra of her undead mutation before Blackthorne could make good on his vow.

Blackthorne returned to the surface, feigned escaping the Inhumanoids and sided with the US Government to stop them. Blackthorne then tricked Sandra and the rest of the Earth Corps into a mission where they would be trapped underground while Metlar detonated explosives designed to lay waste to the surface world, block out the sun and blow up the Earth’s Primal Core causing planet wide destruction.

When they were ambushed by D’Compose and Tendrill during their journey to the Primal Core to stop Metlar’s suicidal plan Sandra and Herc convinced the two Inhumanoids that Metlar’s plan would kill them as well leaving him the only survivor.

Turning on Metlar the Inhumanoids battled amongst one another until the combined efforts of the Mutores and Earth Corps trapped the Inhumanoids once again and stopped the detonation of the Primal Core.

Earth Corps then captured Blackthorne thanks largely to his malfunctioning armor being severely damaged in the previous battles. Blackthorne was then arrested, brought to trial and sentence to a maximum-security prison called The Glades located in Florida. Sandra then took sole ownership of Shore Industries and the Shore Foundation.

Blackthorn’s cellmate was the infamous criminal scientist Doctor Herman Manglor. Blackthorn admitted he had been a fan of the doctor’s work for years and the two struck up an incredibly strong friendship while incarcerated together.

When the renegade Artificial Intelligence called Cypheroid became self-aware it used Tendrill to break Blackthorn and Manglar from prison as part of its plan to gain allies to help it manipulate the Inhumanoids. In the chaos of the mass prison break Blackthorn and Manglar fled into the swamps being pursued by a police helicopter.

Unknown to everyone in The Glades a chemical company had been using part of the swamp nearby as an illegal dumping ground for barrels of corrosive toxic waste. As Blackthorn and Manglar ran across a fallen tree above the dump site the guard’s shot the rotten tree trunk snapping it in half before Manglar could fully cross sending him into the acidic toxic waste.

Blackthorne was unable to rescue Manglar who soon sank below the surface of the tainted water and drowned while the chemicals ate away his flesh. Crushed by the loss of his friend Blackthorne vowed he would come back for Manglar and bring him back somehow.

Allying with the Cypheroid Blackthorne was gifted a new more powerful and monstrously designed biomechanical armored suit designed by Cypheroid to produce the same electromagnetic effects as his previous one but on a much grander scale.

After Cypheroid’s plan failed and it was destroyed Blackthorne then had his men use drilling equipment to drain part of the swamp into a subterranean chamber and collected Manglar’s skeletal remains and the swamp contents into a stone cauldron.

Blackthorne later freed D’Compose and offered to help him form an army of the undead to take over the surface world in exchange for bringing Doctor Manglar back to life.

Using his mystical touch D’Compose reformed Manglar’s body but due to the toxic waste, metals, decomposed animals, trash and other elements present in the toxic swamp water Manglar’s remains were kept in his body became an amalgam of these materials into a super strong eight-foot-tall undead armored creature with a large bony prehensile whip where it’s right arm should be.

Blackthorne and D’Compose were horrified by the creature before them but Doctor Manglar admired and approved of his new hideous form. Dubbing himself the Nightcrawler Doctor Manglar renewed his partnership with Blackthorne.

For doing his part in bringing Doctor Manglar back to life D’Compose tasked the duo with curing him and his D’Composed victims of their vulnerability to sunlight which hurt D’Compose and cured his victims of his mutating touch.

Realizing they couldn’t go out in public as wanted men Blackthorne decided the easiest way to get an army was to create a cult.

Making their base in an abandoned cathedral with a large basement Blackthorne started The Cult of Darkness. Wearing a hooded robe and demonic face mask Blackthorne created the identity of Brother Druid and gave fiery speeches targeting the disenfranchised youths of the city to come his army of the night.

When the teens showed up at his church Blackthorne used a will-deadening gas on them to make them line up to be touched by D’Compose turning them into oversize undead zombies that were then set loose on the city to cause chaos.

Using the zombies rampage as a cover Nightcrawler dispatched several of them to steal chemicals he used to produce the serum he promised D’Compose.

Nightcrawler ingested some of the serum as a test but before D’Compose could consume it the Earth Corps attacked the villains and cured their victims with sunlight.

D’Compose took the formula and realized Nightcrawler double-crossed him and the serum only worked on him and not D’Compose which forced him to flee underground while Earth Corps once again defeated Nightcrawler and Blackthorn and handed them over to the authorities.

Blackthorne and Nightcrawler were put on trial and about to be sentenced for their crimes when Senator Charles Masterson came into the court and pardoned them. Unbeknownst to everyone at the time Masterson was corrupt and was secretely on Blackthorne’s payroll.

An enraged D’Compose then burst through the floor of the courthouse trying to kill Blackthorne and Nightcrawler in revenge for betraying him. The duo managed to escape D’Compose’s rampage which destroyed the courthouse before he retreated underground to once again.

Realizing they needed a powerful ally against D’Compose Blackthorne convinced Nightcrawler to help him find the Inhumanoid known as the Gagoyle which he had located inside a radioactive volcano.

After realizing he could command the Gagoyle due to his inhuman nature Nightcrawler threw Blackthorne into a pit with the monster and ordered it to swallow him which it promptly did. Nightcrawler then informed Blackthorne that he would no longer follow his plans and made Blackthorne agree to serve him or else he would command the Gagoyle to digest him. Blackthorne in fear for his life agreed to Nightcrawler’s terms.

Later the trio were attacked by the Redwoods and Blackthorn, tiring of Nightcrawler’s abuse fled from the fight and escaped into a nearby cave system vowing he’d get revenge on his former friend.

Nightcrawler’s plan to use the Gagoyle to kill the three main Inhumanoids failed and he escaped when the Gagoyle was presumed to be killed after being thrown off a cliff into a boiling river of lava.

Blackthorn now desperate for revenge against everyone he felt opposed or betrayed him found the temple prison of the Inhumanoid Sslither and released the giant reptilian Inhumanoid Sslither upon the world knowing it would seek revenge against the other Inhumanoids.

Realizing too late what a grave error he had made releasing the vastly powerful and uncontrollable Inhumanoid Blackthorne contacted Nightcrawler to renew their partnership relating to him that they had to put aside their differences to defeat Sslither. Nightcrawler then went to Earth Corps forming an alliance with them to defeat their common enemies.

Knowing the two of them stood little chance of defeating Sslither Nightcrawler wasn’t present during the final battle between the Inhumanoids and Earth Corps and their allies the Mutores who finally defeated and imprisoned the Inhumanoids once more.

Blackthorne was once again apprehended by Earth Corp and is currently in prison.

Height: 6’ 2” (In Mark I Armor) 9’ 4” (In Mark II Armor) 9’ 8”
Weight: 285 lbs. (In Mark I Armor) 975 lbs. (In Mark II Armor) 1085 lbs.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Brown

Unusual/Distinguishing Features: Blackthorne is missing his left eye and wears an eyepatch to cover the wound.

Strength Level: Blackthorne possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height and build who engages in regular exercise.

Blackthorne has worn armor that contains an exoskeleton that boosts his strength to superhuman levels enabling him to lift/press 50 tons.

Abilities/Accessories:

Blackthorne is a cunning and ruthless businessman as well as an accomplished archeologist and explorer with vast knowledge of the Inhumanoids history.

Blackthorne has an intense, charismatic personality and is a gifted orator and speech maker.

Blackthorne has worn two sets of exploration suits. The Mark I was based on designs and concepts he stole from Earth Corps. The Mark I armor was specially suited for subterranean exploration and tested to withstand concussive force of 50 lbs. of TNT.

Fully insulated and pressure regulated, the suit could withstand external temperature variations from –50 degrees to 8500 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Mark I armor could produce tremendous amounts of electromagnetic energy from its gauntlets that could be formed into a powerful electromagnetic field capable of incapacitating Metlar.

The Mark I armor’s gauntlets could also act as powerful magnets and attract or repel magnetic objects as well as generate a magnetic aura around the armor itself capable of the same actions.

The Mark I armor could also fire pulses and bolts of electrostatic ranging from a single volt to 100,000 volts. The suit was specially insulated so it and the wearer could not be affected by the electromagnetic energies it created and manipulated.

The suit’s helmet contained sensors capable of tracking energy sources such as the ones produced by Earth Corps exploration suits and vehicles as well as the unique biological energy signatures of the Inhumanoids.

The helmet’s sensors also contain infrared vision enhancers allowing the user to see in total darkness as well as a powerful light array that can illuminate 160 to 350 feet ahead of the armor depending on the beam intensity and environmental conditions. The lights can also be used to temporarily blind and disorient enemies.

The Mark I armor was prone to short circuiting due to the tremendous amount of energy it produced and manipulated.

The Mark II armor had all the Mark I armor’s abilities increased by a factor of 2 making it twice as powerful as the previous model.

The Mark II armor was biomechanical and had organic Inhumanoid body parts and material grafted to the metallic exoskeleton to make the generation, storage, and manipulation of electromagnetic energy more efficient than the previous armor.

The Inhumanoid hands grafted to the Mark II were far more dexterous and the previous armor’s gauntlets and could be used for slashing attacks, swatting away projectiles, digging and moving large objects such as boulders with ease.

The hands could spin on their wrist mounts at 6500 revolutions per minute which could be used as a shield to deflect projectiles or act as drills to make new passageways by through solid rock.

Due to the unique nature of the Mark II armor, it is much quieter than the Mark I armor and more suited for stealth and ambush attacks than the previous model.
