Thank you. It's one of the more emotional pieces, for me, that I've done.

All of my respect, excellent shot, the concept and the execution are both amazing. Warrior-ish.

Thank you. The hard part of this image was the poem, actually. That took me a lot longer to do than the photo.

I stumbled across ' gallery recently (since the two of you share some of the same models), and have been comparing your work, techniques, etc. What first caught my eye about his work was that many of his pieces have dark backgrounds with a single overhead light illuminating the model, as you've done here.
I've not spent enough time looking at his work (certainly not as much as I've spent looking at yours), but it's a lot of fun comparing works by the two of you.

Ha! Scott's a cool guy; I'm trying to infect him with a bit of goofiness.

LOL; good luck with that, I'd like to see what he does with nekos and schoolgirls with samurai swords.

The lighting could not possibly have been more perfect to accentuate the shoulders and blade. Very well shot.

I was confident I could win any sword fight,...until I saw her "gradient".

(For the record, "gradient" is mjranum's word, I only think up comments that exploit such miscombobulations of English.)

this is quite beautiful.
I almost never like women and knives (or weapons of any kind). frankly, I don't usually like yours, and I really like your work in general.
this one, though, seems to have a deeper meaning, like a real story. the lighting is a big part of it, but the symmetry and pose, together with the lighting, makes it exquisite.

You put that very graciously - thank you. Yeah, I know the "chicks and guns/knives" thing is a bit weird but... Well, as you see there are two totally different things going on here. On one hand I enjoy the idea of playing off cultural notions of female weakness by giving them weapons in a humorous context. But the death poems are more serious. DP #1 is a piece of writing I've been working on for 6 months or so, and I finally managed to shoot a photo that sort of fits it. It is not at all intended to be humorous.

that makes sense. the seriousness and outright gravity are clearly integral. are the writings posted anywhere?

No, that's the only place I've posted the poem. And that's it, really - just those 3 lines.
