Description
Stella-1, the colonyship that brought people to their new home is now orbiting planet Lithos. Most people still live there, in fact only about 100 people left it to live on the surface of the planet. Life up there is still more comfortable and safer than on the almost completely lifeless world under it.
People have been living their lives with a sense of fulfilment for the past few years. They are there at the beginning of a new chapter in the grand story of humankind.
However, one day something unexpected happened. A flurry of activity has erupted in the control rooms of Stella-1. The radar system has detected houndreds of small spacecraft flying towards them at extreme velocity. The crew quickly tried to make contact with them. Radio waves stretched out across the void, carrying peaceful greetings. "Who could they be?", "Maybe more people from Earth escaped the AI's rule...", "Perhaps aliens?...", the crew could only guess. The swarm was only a few days of travel away, the signal can reach them in hours.
Hours passed... no response. A day passed... nothing.
The crew did not tell anyone what they had found, it was better not to cause any unnecessary stress to colonists. Another day later, they could more precisely calculate the trajectory of the spacecrafts. As it turned out, the swarm will merely go past Lithos. Their more likely destination is the asteroid belt not too far from the planet. Questions and confusion echoed through the chambers of the ship.
After they passed by, people could only guess to what the swarm was up to. With the technology on board they could only see so far.
The days went on and life continued, like nothing happend...
After a fun day at his friend's house, a young child heads home. Him and his peers were born on Stella-1 but moved down to the planet recently. As he walks out of the house, his breath fogs up in the chilly night air. Then, as he looks up, a streak of light burst's accross the sky. "A shooting star!" - he yells out. It's the first one he's ever seen, but certainly not the last...
