I figured that the reason why Luna wasn't there was because she didn't want to go. Princess Celestia did say that the Galla is "aways awful."

Aww. I haven't watched it yet, but now I'm going to cry because she had to miss it. Regardless, You did a lovely job on the elder princess, and having her so cheerful an sweet about her explanation makes it all the harder to take, but more effective too. Is this out of love or is she messing with poor Luna. The cuter take on the little one only makes it more heartbreaking. But that's the point, and you expressed that extremely well.

Let's see...that means that Luna didn't have to spend hours greeting a long line of guests with her sister. She didn't have to spend time with her bratty, stuck-up dick of a nephew. She didn't have to attend to a boring, formal party that would eventually collapse around her, literally. And she was spared the horror of watching Fluttershy go totally psycho.

I was wondering about that one. And actually we should not just ground her like that. I'm kind of think that if Lauren would to bring Luna in, I would say she's side by side with her older sister. If not, she's just might be at another part of the castle or simply busy performing the special effects.
