till Faust confirms that she's not gonna appear anytime soon (season 2)

Someone simply had to control the night, I guess. Still, the lack of her in the last episode is seriously disappointing.

Luna, Trixie, Gilda, Photo Finish, and all the other memorable side characters were show-only, developed after the toyline was in production, not based on some toy that Hasbro came up with.
That means the copyright and license for the show-only characters is different than toy-based characters. My guess is that means Lauren & crew can only show each voiced side character in one episode. (They pushed it with Blueblood, but the first was a fantasy sequence.)
The Mayor and other townies like the Cakes don't count, I'm guessing.
For season 2, keep watching the shelves for Luna and NMM toys.

While true their surprise fame, obvious if you search the galleries. Will probably result in them being in more and more episodes. Hopefully at least, as I'd like to see Luna and Trixie again. But seriously why not a Trixie out of the gate? I mean you can sell her and her roving wagon as a playset. I know they were in production like you said but hey...it's not a bad idea.

When they all arrived at the Gala, and then those two balls of light spinning around each other went shooting up into the sky, I was all "Oh, holy crap awesome, please let those be Luna and Celestia!!" but no, they were just dumb, plain old fireworks. -.-
