Anti-starship rifle? You must have designed this after playing some Starcraft and shooting down BCs and carriers with Marines

Well in Starcraft with enough Marines (the basic Terran unit) you could shoot down a Battle Cruiser or Carrier (the most powerful air units of the Terrans respectively the Protoss). Everybody thought it kind of stretched the suspension of disbelief to the maximum but now you provided a valid explanation.

Stop, HAMR time.
Couldn't help myself. Hehe, but really this is one fucking glorious weapon, MOAB. Deathly and glorious.

this must be what you were telling me about.....
*want*
i've always enjoyed sniping when playing paintball, airsoft, etc. but, more specifically, i prefer the high accuracy and versatility of weapons such as the M-14. light enough to be used in a heavy-fire situation, accuracy and range to be used for sniping, big bullets, the whole package. but if i were to get my hands on a weapon like this.... excuse me while i grab a 10-round mag, and a custom scope that will let me use iron-sights with the scope still attached.
i see you have some nice cover there, it would be a shame if something happened to it....

indeed it is. it is actually kinda fun. i'm designing a GPMG round now, it started as a boredom drawning while in the classroom and has now evolved into ballistic calculators and MS Paint. however, to my surprise, that simple 8x55mm round has almost 10 cubic centimeters of case capacity and, in approximate calculations, would get muzzle energies higher than 7000 Joules. holy shit, both are more than a freaking .338 Lapua Mag, so maybe i will draw some sniper rifles based on that as well.

When I started looking into the actual effects that some of my weapons would have it got a little holy shitballs. My orbital railgun for example fires a 300mm, five ton rod at 4km/s and delivers 500 kilotons of force on impact. I thought it might just punch through the aircraft carrier it hits. Instead it seems likely to split the thing in half and slap it together like two hands clapping.

or reduce the target to pieces and orbital trash.
because in combat there is no such thing as overkill.
