I adore how more monstrous and twisted of a human and the spider suit your version is of him in comparison to the comic version- which was much more seemingly buff human with a suit.
This is a screen shot from a game called Ultimate Spider-man. It was based off of the comic series by the same title. I quite enjoyed it, as the use of animated comic panels throughout the game was a nice touch to the overal experience of the story.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate⦠it came out on ps2 and gamecube. (good ole gamecube days!)
This is one of the first scenes in the game. However later on, it reappeared as- (Venom was a main reoccuring villiain in the game, and Boiiiiiiiiiii it was fun) It felt as though time stood still, when Peter decided to finally confront Venom- even though it was incredibly painfull (literal migraines apparently, i think i recall that he passed out once due to the pain) to do so. In the battle that followed, Peter was only able to get a few hits in on Venom before he had to fall back and recover a little while dodging Venoms insane attacks and lunges.Β
This mechanic was repeated in another game, Spider-man Edge of Time, only it was a battle between Spidey and Anti-Venom who- may have actually been constructed for Spiderman 2099. Anti-Venom of course was able to drain spidermans radiation by touching him, and so throughout the battle, spider-man grew weaker and weaker until he could barely walk and throw a punch... and then spoilers happened.

Okay, that is done way better and creepier than it it does in the Ultimate comics.
For the record, the context is basically the same in the original comic as it is in the game. Peter and Eddie were childhood friends while their dads developed a cure for cancer. Their dads die, and years later the two meet up again, with Eddie revealing he held onto 'the cure'. Peter decides to work on it for himself, and thus the black suit Spidey variant of the Ultimate universe is born. Yet like in every dimension, it proves too much for Peter to control and he gets rid of it, much to Eddie's dismay. So he takes another sample of the cure he had made, becomes the inky monster himself, and tracks Peter down to his High School to confront him, which is where that panel originated from. I know all of this because I am a huge nerd, especially when it comes to the wall-crawler.Β

I don't like the way the symbiote is introduced in the ultimate comics, at least from how I understand it. The way it was explained to me the symbiote just took over Pete's body for an hour or so and wrecked the city of new york before the two were seperated again. There's no time for them to "bond" and for the symbiote to gradually exert more control over peter like it is in the original storyline. Thus, there's no real reason for the symbiote to hold a gripe against peter and the motivations of venom as a villain are a lot weaker. Remember, Venom's whole thing is that he's two personalities in one monstrous body united by their mutual hatred towards the spider (at least in the beginning).Β

Actually, what happened was that Peter, while in the black suit, was chasing a mugger down the street, and by the unfortunate look of the mugger, he looked like Uncle Ben's killer; which made the black suit almost go Venom beserk with Peter's emotions in which he reacted quickly in attempting to get off from it after realizing the dangers it hasΒ

True, but I'm more or less indifferent to this version from the Ultimate comics. Ultimate Spider-Man is still a great comic book series, and some changes really work. In this story, one change that I personally think that's better than the original is the bond between Eddie and Peter. I prefer the long-lost brother relationship they have in these books rather than the bitter rivals they usually are in the original stories. And hey, if it didn't work in the comics, it definitely works on Spectacular Spider-Man. They still give Eddie and Peter a personal relationship to each other, but this time the suit is symbiotic and the split personality aspect is definitely there.Β

Oh yes, we can definitely aggree on spectacular spiderman being the best adaptation of the symbiote storyline, and possibly the best iteration of the spiderman character in general. x3

Hey, it's not HIS fault Young Justice toys hardly sold! How many of us actually knew those even existed?

I never mentioned anything about toy sales with their shows, neither I knew that Young Justice had toys

You said his shows got shamelessly cancelled. Young Justice is one of his shows, and it got cancelled because of toy sales.

No, Disney bought Marvel and Spidey's television rights came with them. Sony wasn't allowed to continued the series.Β

Again, it ain't Weissman's fault that nobody bought toys or that Disney's lawyers are more powerful than Thanos.

Of course its not his fault, he doesn't have anything to do with toy manufacturing of the products based on the shows, its the executives that display it into a huge business to earn sales

True that indeed, such a regular carbon copy of the comics that have literally nothing to do with the Ultimate version of the story except it's only resemblance comes from the title, and that's it, what a wasted opportunity and disservice

Me, I hated how they treated Spider-Man. He was nothing but the constant punchline to a joke that was never funny. He was just a smart-@$$ with few human moments. Or actual funny moments for that matter.

I see, the reason I don't like it is because it has absolutely nothing to do with the real Ultimate Spider-Man comics, only resemblance is the title only, just no resemblance to the material

Really? Cuz they have an episode where Wolverine and Logan swap bodies, and there are a few moments when that follows the storyline played out in the comic.

That's awesome to hear! One of the main deviations between my version and the original is that Venom sort of "blends" into the blackness of the rainy night. Could that be what you are referring to?

Thats great to hear! I've been going through a lot of iterations on the character over the years before ending up with something I liked. For such an iconic design he's pretty hard to replicate, I think.

Yeah, that's where I got it from too, though I didn't play the game, I saw videos of that particular scene. But I wonder if that's the "original" source. For example the game would also occasionally borrow panels from the Ultimate Spiderman comics and put them in its cutscenes (which is an awesome artistic choice because it works so well with the style of the game), so I gotta wonder if that's one of them.Β
