Description
The last of this batch of zerg images to go with that series (I still haven't gotten around to finally adding the brood lord), this Devourer was created in the initial push of HotS development to revisit the couple of Zerg units that hadn't made it into Liberty.I really enjoyed this one, the original Devourer design always felt really cool to me, and I tried to keep a hold of that here.
*PhillGonzo did a great job with the final model as well and once it was fully animated it was great to see flying around - unfortunately now it only makes a brief cameo in mission 2 of HotS.

The Devourer looked so intimidating, and once out, the mutas could attackΒ protossΒ and terran capital ships that had +9 spores for that sweet glaive worm triple hit deluxe.

The old Brood War devourer picture (along with Valkyrie) was quite hard to understand (at least for me), but this is so clear, and cooler

These are incredible! I've looked at some of your tutorials and you don't seem to do linework a lot of the time, are you saving your linework for last?

I love how it looks. A perfect Devourer and still so many details that hint it mutates from a Mutalisk. Way better than Mutalisk -> Guardian or Corruptor -> Brood Lord. Those wings are a good match with the primal Mutalisk or the Viper strain in the campaign.
