It is wiser that way, besides "A name is the key to your past, but your eyes are the doorway, protect both". Basically those are the two things demons usually go after, either they try to find out your name so they can claim your mind or a rather 'forced' entry instead.

Kerrun does it as a matter of habit. It's more as a way of keeping the rest of the filth that is humanity at arms length than as a way of avoiding daemons.

At this point he's just a sanctioned psyker, dispatched with a small specialist crew, working in conjunction with the 18th regiment of the Cyprian Gatekeepers of the IG.
He knows little of the Inquisition, except for his brief time on the black ships. Which he would rather not think about.
